Sponsor Needed for Biggest, Baddest Head to Head Netbook Video Review Ever

Published

on

We want to do a head to head video review between the following netbooks – in one big video review: Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Netbook, Lenovo S10, Acer Aspire One, HP Mini 1000, Samsung NC10, Toshiba NB100, the Asus 901 Eee PC, and possibly others. We want to compare the keyboards, the webcam, the screens, the weight, typing speeds, the standard battery life, the size, and more. Wouldn’t that be a heck of a video review?

We’ve had some of the units in at various times, but never all at one time, and in one place, in order to pull off such a head to head review. If your company is interested in sponsoring this video review for us, getting some fantastic press, and making a lot of mobile pc readers happy, contact me at [email protected].

“We want to do a head to head video review…”

    Rob,
I certainly hope that your “head-to-head” review is not contingent upon sponsorship. We all know that economic times are “tough,” but you guys should just keep doing what you’re doing. Besides, it looks kind of tacky when a post appears to be begging for sponsorship.

    Just my two cents.

    Illuminator –

let’s see – cash out to buy 4 to 6 computers that we wouldn’t be able to get evals for? I’m sorry you see the post as “tacky”. It is no different when a media publication creates a special buying guide and gets someone to sponsor it.

This site is advertising / sponsorship based and is a business – designed to make money. It takes time and money to run it. If we happen to get all the netbooks loaned to use to evaluate – at the same time – then the sponsorship isn’t needed. However, to pull off a head to head eval like that requires having all the units in at the same time, and that is hard to coordinate with various PR firms and OEMs. For example, we’ll have the S10 at CES, but just recently shipped off the HP Mini 1000.

There are many things we do on the site that we only do because we have a sponsor for them – InkShows, the steady stream of news that we produce, the podcasts, our CES coverage, etc. We are constantly reevaluating where we are spending our time, where the interest is from a readership standpoint, and what is generating revenue.

You will see us from time to time advertise the need for sponsors / thank our current ones. That is what a business does.

Either this person doesn’t know what he’s talking about, or is having a bad day.

I’ve read so many of these posts, I almost feel like the admins should just ignore those posts.

People want free stuff, but they don’t like it when the providers don’t spend their own money to provide the content? Simply ridiculous.

I disagree with the above comments and If I was a vendor I would take advantage of the opportunity to have an independent, well known and read website review my product.

I could see some bias IF one of the vendors was GIVING the product to GBM to keep but Rob is apparently asking to have the devices loaned. If that is the case and he is not benefitting by keeping them, then it is a fair practice.

of course, the vendors can go further and give them away after the review :D

Laptop Magazine got many of the big players you asked for–but not all of them. Looking forward to GottaBeMobile’s review! :)
