Sprint 4G LTE Roll Out Looks Good for April

Published

on

While Sprint has still has not confirmed exactly when it will be rolling out its upcoming 4G LTE network, all signs seem to be pointing to April as the month in which the Now Network launches its high-speed cellular network. The first sign was a contest for its first 4G LTE phone ending at the beginning of April and now we have a full-blown WiMax sale taking place at Amazon during the month of March.

A few weeks ago, Sprint launched a contest for its version of the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. It’s going to be giving out 30 devices and those interested can sign up between now and April 5th.

We doubt that the carrier will make contest entrants wait long for their prize and we also doubt that they’ll make them use the phone on its CDMA 3G network.

So that’s the first sign.

The second sign is a sale that is currently going on at Amazon where every single 4G WiMax phone in the carrier’s lineup including the Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch, the HTC EVO 3D, the Nexus S 4G, and more are all on sale for a penny this month.

Of course, the deal does require you to sign a new two-year contract with the carrier but you probably saw that coming.

So it appears that retailers are trying to move Sprint devices on an aging network and if we had to guess, we’d say it’s because the carrier plans to introduce its 4G LTE network next month.

Sprint has already revealed which cities will be getting the service at launch and maybe, just maybe, we’ll see Apple’s new iPad land on the Now Network around that time as well.

I am a little skeptical about 4G and Sprint. After nearly 2yrs of no wimax for my Evo 4G and an extra 10.00 for the pleasure I am not particularly enthused about this announcement.

ditto what bibleverse1 said.  Also not really nice of them to dump phones for an obsolete network on people who will have to pay to upgrade within 2 years.

So Sprint is going back to Grand Rapids before Detroit, they already have WiMax, really making me think of leaving Sprint after 10 years.  Weak

Yeah I had the same sentiment, so after 12 years I left for Verizon…

just give me 6 full bars at 3G and i will roll my unlimited data plan on my EVOs hotspot to connect my Transformer Prime to the web and I am great. But if Sprint releases a 4G LTE that will be nice because it will still take every carrier 5 years to make it more accessible in rural areas and in heavily populated areas with alot of large concrete and steel buildings.

China Mobile is already in its roll out of the 2nd generation of a 4G LTE network and may reach 5G by 2025.

I couldn’t agree more with bibleverse1 and Ablonseno.  I was irked when I got my EVO 4G when it arrived in June 2010 and learned I’d have to pay $10 extra a month for the privilege of having a 4G phone but no network.  They finally got one tower up about 17 miles away, but I’ve only been able to connect to it once in the nearly 2 years I’ve had my phone.  To make matters worse, I thought I’d be able to use 4G when I traveled to Orlando and Tampa on business.  HA!  In Orlando I was just outside the coverage area and in Tampa I couldn’t get connected either.  I kept waiting for 4G to become a reality, especially after forking over an extra $240for service I couldn’t even receive.  Now that Sprint has decided to dump WiMax and move to LTE, I never will get a chance to utilize 4G on my EVO.  I’m really feeling like I got shafted and was actually defrauded!  I may be eligible to upgrade on 4/1/2012, but the only upgrade I ay be rushing to is a Verizon LTE iPhone if Apple releases an LTE iPhone 5 this summer.

Sprint, we’ve had a long history together.  Why’d you have to shaft me like this?

I cancelled my Sprint service after being a loyal customer for four years! I had the HTC EVO 4G and of COURSE no 4G service in my area. The 3G service with Sprint runs super slow; T-Mobile..ATT and Verizon have a much faster 3G network. I would run speed test on my EVO and consistently have a speed of .20mbps! I cancelled my Sprint service and switched to Verizon!!
