Sprint Nexus S 4G Discontinued
Sprint has gone ahead and killed its exclusive Nexus smartphone, the Nexus S 4G.
According to The Verge, Sprint has confirmed the news and the device has vanished from the company’s website, never to be seen again. This means that consumers who want to get a hold of Sprint’s WiMax-powered Nexus must now do so through a third party retailer like Amazon.
The news also comes after Sprint was hosting a sale on the device, offering it for free on-contract.

Sprint’s move should come as no surprise. The company has said that it will no longer be releasing 4G WiMax smartphones, the 4G in the Nexus S 4G’s name refers to Sprint’s WiMax network, and the company recently released the Samsung Galaxy Nexus for its upcoming 4G LTE network.
The carrier’s 4G LTE network, which will replace its 4G WiMax network, is not yet live. In the next few weeks, the 4G LTE will roll out to Baltimore and Kansas City, followed by expansions in Atlanta, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.
Sprint’s Nexus S 4G is an attractive phone despite its age. It has a 4-inch display, a display size that is coveted by some smartphone buyers, and it’s also a Nexus device which means it’s easy to customize. It also just got the upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
Additionally, it’s cheap. Amazon Wireless is currently offering up the phone for a mere penny.
So while it’s sad to see Sprint kill off a phone, it’s nice that the carrier does have some nice alternatives to offer like the Galaxy Nexus and the HTC EVO 4G LTE.

Glad to see it go. I’ve had one for almost a year and all I can say is “junk”. I have complained to Sprint many times and Sprint said no one has complained about this phone, it’s just me. Well from what I have read, everyone is having the same problems I have experienced. Sprint told me to suck it up cause I still have a year to go before I qualify for an upgrade. Bring on the iphone 4s. Can’t wait.

Ioved my sprint/Google phone the first year, It was easy to use shade all the bells and whistles from Google with the reliability, clear crisp sound, no dropped calls, then I couldn’t get it to charge when I brought it to the sprint store customer service said the port to plug in the changer was wet, How this happened after a year don’t know. I was told pay $100.00 dollars we will drop ship you referbished one in 24 hours. The saleman comes out from the back and tells me. Well it’s your lucky day there’s no $100.00 charge we’ll call you next week when it comes in, I leave not thinking because I worked all night. Crap I have no phone my sister’s in the hospital dying of breast cancer she passed August 15, 2012 sprint gave me a evo shift pH hated it got the nexus s back in August it’s not the easy to use phone anymore Google and sprint apps fight with each other Google tries to take over the whole phone. I,m very disgusted with this phone and sprints service throughout thewhole ordeal. I have no idea what phone to try next.
