on

Sprint has been rumored to be among the U.S. carriers scheduled to offer the next iPhone and according to Bloomberg, it will employ a weapon to ensure that it has something to use against the the competition. AT&T and Verizon will definitely be getting the iPhone 5, however, both offer tiered data plans. Sprint, according to Bloomberg, will be offering up unlimited data for use with the iPhone 5 in an effort to lure in customers who love to have that freedom.

The report claims that Sprint will be releasing the next iPhone in mid-October and it will be the only operator that will give iPhone 5 users access to unlimited data.

Sprint has had trouble keeping up with the big two, AT&T and Verizon, and an iPhone 5 paired with unlimited data might just be the thing it needs to thrust it back into the conversation. And while it’s great for that, it might not be so great for Sprint’s network.

One of the reasons that AT&T is trying to purchase T-Mobile is because it needs more spectrum. And one of the main reasons that it needs more spectrum is because of the strain that the iPhone has put on its network. That strain contributed to AT&T’s move to tiered data after the launch of the iPhone and it surely made Verizon head in the same direction in July.

Sprint’s decision to offer unlimited data might put its network under the same type of strain and it’s possible that the carrier might have to enact changes if the influx of new iPhone 5 customers presents too much strain for the network.

In any event, this definitely will make Sprint a very attractive destination for future iPhone 5 owners.

Would you head to Sprint just to get an unlimited data plan with an iPhone?
