Sumocat Predicted the Lenovo Yoga Tablet 8 and 10 in 2010
Call him prescient, call him a dreamer, call him a visionary. You can also call him a patent attorney because maybe he needs one. The him refers to former GBM blogger and the Godfather of Inking, Mark “Sumocat” Sumimoto. Sumocat was and still is passionate about the Tablet form factor. As a blogger who put his digital ink where his mouth was, Sumocat created an Ink blogging system for his own blog, Sumocat’s Scribbles, and often his digital ink drawings and scribbles graced the pages here at GBM. Occasionally those ink drawings cooked up new ideas about the Tablet form factor.
Yesterday Lenovo announced the new Yoga Tablet 8 and Tablet 10 additions to its lineup. You have to say this about Lenovo, they are constantly experimenting with the form factors of their devices. These Android Tablets debut with a unique form factor in today’s world of flat Tablets. Lenovo is using a notebook sized battery to power the new Yoga Tablets and that battery is located in a barrel like protrusion on the side of the Tablet that serves a dual purpose as a handle. Here is a picture of the Yoga Tablet.
Like I said, unique in today’s world of flat Tablets. But is it that unique? Sumocat dreamed up a now very familiar looking form factor prior to a new Tablet launch by Apple. His post is linked below and you can read it to find out where his inspiration came from. Here is the Ink drawing that Sumocat published in 2010.
Fascinating, don’t ya think?
