Surprise: Tablet PC Market Share is Growing

The Active Ink Software Blog is linking to an eWeek Channel Insider article that says Tablet PC market share is growing. Here’s the money quote:

According to IDC research, tablets doubled their market share in 2007 from 2006, accounting for more than 7 percent of the mobile market last year, and they are on a similar growth curve this year.

The article is speaking primarily about the vertical markets and suggesting that there is opportunity for more market penetration in corporate IT. There’s no surprise there. But this quote from later in the article seems puzzling (bold face is mine):

Another positive sign: Dell entered this market this year with its Latitude XT model, a move likely to help keep prices down and widen the tablet’s reach.

I’m not so sure about that one at the moment.
