Samsung Galaxy S2 owners on T-Mobile who are anxiously awaiting a Jelly Bean update for their device will have to endure at least one more Ice Cream Sandwich update as the carrier has started rolling out the Android 4.0.4 ICS update to owners today.

Earlier this week, Samsung started to roll out the long-awaited Samsung Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update to owners of the device in Spain. And while that update is strictly for the international version, owners of other variants of the Galaxy S2 are surely excited about the future. One set of excited Galaxy S2 owners are surely those who use the phone through T-Mobile.

The Galaxy S2 for T-Mobile is receiving an Android 4.0.4 update today.

T-Mobile Galaxy S2 owners are likely going to be prompted with a software update today though it won’t be Jelly Bean. Instead, it will be an upgrade to another version of Android 4.0.4 Ice Cream Sandwich which brings some fixes and enhancements to the table.

The update is rolling out Over-the-Air and it’s also available through Samsung Kies, the software that Samsung uses to push updates to users plugged in through a PC. Users who wish to get the update this moment will probably want to go through Kies.

Samsung says that the OTA will roll out until February 7th.

While not a massive update, it does have some curious features on board including:

  • Qualcomm fix
  • Security enhancements
  • Vlingo S Voice improvements

Even with those fixes and improvements, the update is still extremely small, checking in at 11MB in size.

While it has some likeable features, security updates are always important, it’s probably not the update that T-Mobile Galaxy S2 owners were looking for. That update of course is the Jelly Bean update which should hit the device at some point in the future.

T-Mobile hasn’t confirmed the software just yet but we imagine that it will more than likely be a part of Samsung’s Galaxy S2 Android 4.1 update global roll out over the next few months.

Don’t think its Samsung Tmobile has the final say whether or not to push the update while most of the other devices are getting it so its Tmobile dragging ass just give us the update already this does suck!

I used KIES to get the latest update for my galaxy s2 only to end up with a bricked phone. During the process of updating the phone Kies experienced an error and did not complete the installation of the update. Efforts to do an emergency recovery were hopeless as the phone was frozen. Computer would not recognize the phone thus could not do emergency recovery. Hard restart could not overcome the fact that the phone was frozen (bricked). Samsung tech support tried as they would but nothing in their bag of tricks could un-brick the phone short of sending it to Samsung To have the OS re flashed. Fortunately for me, the phone was within the Samsung warranty period and Samsung will be sending out a replacement. Samsung/T-mobile just release Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S2! Screw the minor releases.
