T-Mobile HTC One S Jelly Bean Update Brings Battery Life Problems

Published

It looks like the long-awaited  T-Mobile HTC One S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update has been more trouble than it’s worth for owners of the aging smartphone as it appears it has brought some battery life problems along with it, problems that have drastically changed the overall experience of T-Mobile’s mid-range One series smartphone.

Back at the end of April, T-Mobile finally started rolling out its Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for the HTC One S, an update that was long overdue and one that HTC One S owners had been looking forward to. The update brought owners from the aging Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which had debuted all the way back in 2011, to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which not only features a faster user interface but a number of likeable features as well.

However, it appears that the update has brought some issues along with it, chief among them, battery life problems that seem to be troubling owners of the One S that are running Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

A lengthy forum discussion, discovered by TMoNews, reveals that HTC One S owners on T-Mobile are currently dealing with battery life problems that have greatly impacted the overall battery life of the device thanks to abnormal drain. Right now, it appears that owners believe that the issue is being caused by faulty GPS as it appears that the function still continues to operate, even when turned off. Other owners are saying that their battery life isn’t terrible but that there is definitely a drop from what they were seeing before.

Thus far, there isn’t a fix that works with 100% certainty which means that owners are at the mercy of T-Mobile when it comes to a possible fix for the battery life issues.

Those surprised by battery life issues have either never owned a smartphone or ever owned an Android phone before. Battery life issues almost always crop up after major updates, particularly on Android phones after major updates. However, in this case, it appears that the battery drain is much more severe which means that there is a distinct possibility that T-Mobile could rush out a software update to tackle the issues.

For now, T-Mobile HTC One S owners will need to find an alternative fix as they wait to see if T-Mobile thinks the problem is widespread enough for a software update.

The more I read, the more I fall towards the LG Nexus 4 https://www.bell.ca/Mobility/Products/LG-Nexus-4 maybe people don’t know the Nexus is actually made by LG -always good phones-; it is cheaper and the contract term is shorter. Mmh, no-brainer!

My phone is useless. It takes forever to charge and lasts 3 hours on idle. This update needs to be removed from our phones asap.
