T-Mobile iPhone 5 Price Increases

The price of the T-Mobile iPhone 5 has increased today after the carrier quietly ended a promotional period for the phone that saw its total price fall well below the offerings from other carriers.

Prior to today, T-Mobile offered the iPhone 5 for $99 down with customers needing to pay off the full price of the phone which was listed at $579.99, a price that falls below other unlocked and off-contract prices for Apple’s latest and greatest smartphone. It now appears that that offer is now dead as the carrier has bumped up the pricing of the iPhone 5 from $99 down to $149.99 down and to a full price of $629.99 rather than $579.99.

The price cut comes after a promotional period that lasted from early April when T-Mobile first released the iPhone 5. T-Mobile’s website reflects the new pricing as the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models all have received price hikes up from their initial price points. The 16GB model now starts at $149.99 down while the 32GB and 64GB iPhone 5’s now are listed at $250 and $350 respectively. Their full prices now are listed at $730 and $830, far more expensive than their prices just a day ago.

Monthly payments are still set at $20 per month for those that are looking to nab the phone for T-Mobile’s 4G LTE network which currently is much smaller than its competitors at AT&T, Sprint and Verizon Wireless.

While this may come as a shock to some consumers, T-Mobile’s pricing was promotional which meant that it wouldn’t last forever. However, it wasn’t clear how long the offer was going to last for and unfortunately, it appears as though T-Mobile was only prepared to extend the deal to consumers for a month’s time.

The price increased means that those looking to buy through T-Mobile will have to pay more but the pricing is still cheaper than the pricing found through other outlets. Full retailing pricing for the iPhone 5 elsewhere is going to run consumers $650, $750 or $850 which means despite the increase, T-Mobile is still offering a bit of a discount on the iPhone 5. Just not as much as it once was.
