Google’s introducing a new feature for Android devices called Voice Actions. With the press of a single button and a few spoken words, Android users can send messages, play songs, call contacts, send email, visit websites, create notes or navigate to a destination. The video demo below is pretty impressive, but your mileage will vary [...]
Microsoft COO Kevin Turner is out promoting Windows Phone 7, stating that Microsoft will be back in the game come this fall. Some have declared that the only two viable players in the smartphone market are Android and iPhone, but Turner thinks otherwise. He correctly called Microsoft’s lack of a competitive smartphone operating systeem a [...]
I met up with some folks from Dell to check out the Dell Streak, an Android device that’s created quite a bit of buzz since we first got a peek at it back at CES 2010.I shot a quick video walkthrough and snapped some pics after playing with the device for a few minutes. The [...]
DigiLife is showing off a prototype slate that has a built-in projector. DigiLife’s iOne runs on Android, an ARM processor, has a 10.1″ capacitive touch display and a pair of microSD card slots. It’s not ready for primetime, but at least they’re trying something different. The slate market is getting crowded these days and a [...]
Everywhere you look, Google’s Android is a hot topic these days, and rightly so. The news is tough to keep up with it seems so fast and furious and at the Google I/O conference last week, Google unleashed a flurry of announcements that was dizzying. Android has been the big thing for quite some time [...]
Our friends from Netbooknews.com just published a video of a prototype slate Android device. It’s apparently an NVIDIA reference design that utilizes second generation Tegra graphics. As you can guess, this 8.9″ slate falls into the content consumption device category. NVIDIA is showing off the device playing Backbreaker, a football game, at Google I/O.
Our hats off and hardy congrats to Android! It looks like as of this week, the Android Market will hit 50,000 applications available for download. This is only after a few months back of being at 20,000. Not too shabby for only a few months work. The Android Market is constantly adding new applications, slowly [...]
With all the news of lost or stolen smartphones (yes I am looking at you Mr. Powell), the idea of having a piece of software loaded on them that could help locate the missing phone is a good idea. And, what if it also was able to remotely delete all the data on the phone [...]
Android smartphones are becoming more and more prevalent as the new “IT” device for consumers. These days, you see either a Blackberry, an iPhone, or an Android phone. Google Earth is one of the coolest Google applications available. It has the “wow” factor everytime you use it to zoom in on a street view of your house, or look at the Whitehouse, or whatever you would like to look at around the world. Google Earth has only traditionally been available via desktop (for [...]
As we enter the summer of the smartphone wars this might become a handy reference. This BillShrink.com chart from Dvorak Uncensored doesn’t cover all the options, but it lays out some of them quite nicely for those who have price as a primary concern when it comes to owning a new phone. Other things obviously [...]
It is only a brief mention in a New York Times article but it has caught a lot of eyes. The Times has gotten their hands on some documents that supposedly lay out T-Mobile’s plans to use Google’s Android as the OS for a home phone and a Tablet. Yes, a Tablet. T-Mobile’s use of [...]
If Netbook makers were not thinking about putting Google’s Android on Netbooks and already tinkering I’d be disappointed. That doesn’t mean we’ll see it come to be though. That said, Brad Linder at Liliputing is reporting on a Bloomberg report that Asus has assigned a team of engineers to develop an Android powered Netbook. Again, [...]
We tracked down that Android Tablet we’ve all been hearing about, the GiiNii MovIt and this looks like these folks will continue to make some noise with this device on a number of fronts. Small, pocketable, and with a price aiming for $149, I would expect if they follow through we’ll see these in Wal-Marts [...]
Asus is going to be jumping into the Android market and launching a handset featuring the Google Android handset in 2009. This isn’t Asus’ first foray into the mobile phone space, and given their recent success in disrupting markets with the EEE PC it will be interesting to see how this plays out. According to [...]
