LG Optimus coming to T-Mobile with hotspot functionality


Following up on my earlier post about the HTC EVO where I mentioned the lack of mobile hotspots from AT&T and T-Mobile, I found that T-Mo is about to close that gap with the LG Optimus, an Android-based smartphone with hotspot functionality.

You might be saying to yourselves, “well duh, the HTC EVO is the fastest smartphone with hotspot access: it’s on 4G”. True, but it wasn’t the only 4G phone tested by LAPTOP Magazine, nor is it dominating only on 4G. Also: it seems the newest DROIDs aren’t necessarily the fastest.

Virgin Mobile USA to offer $40 Unlimited Data


Good news out of IntoMobile: Virgin Mobile USA will be streamlining their prepaid mobile data offerings and introducing an unlimited plan for only $40 for 30 days. That’s cheaper than 2-year contract plans with data caps. Might be time for me to order a VM Mifi hotspot.

Clearwire expands WiMAX, targets iDevices with iSpot


Clearwire, operator of the nation’s largest 4G wireless network, made a couple of announcements recently. First, in conjunction with Sprint, they’ve expanded their network to more cities. Second, they’re hoping users of iDevices will jump on that network with their iSpot mobile hotspot. Updated!
