A newly unearthed patent application filed by Apple could reveal the company’s plans for its much rumored iTV and endeavors in the living room space. It was believed that with the iTV, Apple would more heavily dominate the living room than with with its current diminutive Apple TV set top box by bringing the Apple UI and experience to a full HDTV set for the living room. However, such a solution would be bulky, costly, and may not appeal to enough consumers who may not be ready to replace their existing large panels at home. Instead, this patent application calls for the use of smart sensors, a projector, and a completely wire-free experience that may make Apple’s living [...]
Technology co-developed by Intel and Carnegie Mellon University could potentially change your ability to see while driving in the rain at night.
Instead of a traditional headlight bulb projected into the night, the system uses a series of projectors. Sensors sit just below the projectors watching for rain as it enters the beam of light. The sensors then attempt to determine the course of the raindrop as it falls in front of the light. Because the light is computer-controlled, it can selectively choose to NOT broadcast light in certain areas. Based on the data received and extrapolated from the sensors, the projectors will not project light onto the raindrop but continue to [...]
PoP Video isn’t the only pico projector available for the iPhone, but it is an inexpensive one that’s easy to carry around in a pocket.
The PoP Video is a small projector that attaches to the dock connector of the iPhone or iPod touch. The projector rests on the bottom of the device, essentially making the iPhone into the projector. There’s no complicated setup required, and the projector doesn’t need to stand on a table, users can just hold it in their hand.
PoP Video appears to only works with its own free app, but that app lets users project a range of content including photos, video, and websites on Safari. Hopefully Pop will clarify if users [...]
The battery-powered MiLi Pico Projector V2 casts a small image onto a wall or screen for mobile video viewing or for presentations. The Mili product adds a few tricks to mobile video projectors, such as including battery power for untethered mobile video projection and an iOS dock so you can connect your iPhone, iPod Touch or even in a pinch, an iPad. In addition the projector includes a VGA adapter cable so you can hook up a laptop, and it also includes an RCA AV adapter so you can plug in your VCR or camera if you want.
What kind of video quality can you get with such a diminutive video projector? My tests showed mixed results, depending on the environment in which you use [...]
As a professor who is constantly going back and telling students what I have already told them in a lecture I was excited to see the Geek Squad Backpack commercial, which shows a student taking notes with his computer’s built-in microphone, automatically transcribing the professor’s speech into text.
While I was looking for the software which would let students, “take notes while conserving energy,” instead of mashing on a keyboard like a two year old trying to pull up more Dora, I was disappointed to find out that Geek Squad is apparently doing the impossible.
The speech to text software being used by our long haired “master of the study [...]
While pico projectors of yore have relied on VGA, RGB, or S-Video connectors, the updated MicroVision SHOWWX+ HDMI adds the digital HDMI connector to the small pocket-sized pico-projector. The change in technology shows the increased number of smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices supporting an HDMI output connector.
Pico-projectors are small projectors that allow users to project videos, photos, presentations, and other content while on the go. Coupled with a capable smartphone, a pico-projector and phone solution may allow professionals on the go a working alternative to carrying a larger projector and a laptop. The potential here is the mobility afforded by the [...]
