The Right Productivity Tool for the Job

Ben E. Keith beer sales rep goes from a hot car to a convenience store cooler to take inventory at several stops throughout the day.

People use tools all the time that aren’t really designed for the job.  A weekend painter uses a board across a couple of chairs as makeshift scaffolding. A do-it-yourself woodworker uses a hand sander instead of a power sander. In some cases, people just try to make do with what they have. In others, people […]

GBM InkShow: ARMOR X7 Rugged Tablet PC – “Tough Enough”

The ARMOR X7 with a squirrel

Got my hands on another rugged Tablet PC recently: the ARMOR X7 from DRS Technologies, the smaller brother to the X10gx I reviewed earlier. But don’t let the size fool you. It may be petite by comparison, but it’s just as rugged. Definitely tough enough.

ARMOR X10gx Rugged Tablet Now Sprint Certified

Just got word that the ARMOR X10gx rugged Tablet PC is now certified for the Sprint 3G network. While built-in mobile connectivity is falling out of fashion due to mobile hotspot and phone tethering, not many of those devices are designed to take a beating. For reliability in harsh environments, on-board connectivity in a tough […]

Panasonic Toughbook U1 UMPC updated to “Ultra” status

ARMOR X10gx Rugged Tablet PC set to deploy in September

If you’re out in the field, getting your hands dirty, and have a need for real mobile computing, i.e., the kind that can handle being dragged through the mud and kicked in the head, the new ARMOR X10gx from DRS Tactical Systems is aiming for you.

Panasonic Toughbook 19 gets tougher, faster, still can’t fly

Panasonic announced an update for their Toughbook 19 (which sports a 10″ screen, not 19″). It now features an Intel Core i5-540UM processor with Turbo Boost for speeds up to 2.0GHz and vPro for motherboard-level security. It also tops MIL-STD-810G certification with the ability to withstand a six-foot drop (probably still won’t pass helicopter test).

InkShow: MobileDemand xTablet T7000 at the Shooting Range

MobileDemand is just starting to ship the xTablet T7000 out to its customers and they were kind enough to send one over for us to torture. The first place I decided to beat up the xTablet T7000 was at the shooting range. Just to get this out of the way, we did NOT shoot the […]
