Screen shot 2010-09-27 at 10.51.24 AM

Last week we got into a discussion about what makes notebooks and netbooks feel cheap. On the other end of the spectrum, there are PCs that look and feel rock solid. PanasonicU1ToughbookThumb

Been more than two years since we saw the debut of the Panasonic Toughbook U1 rugged UMPC. But now it’s been updated with a brighter screen and better innards as the Toughbook U1 Ultra, which in no way reminds me of the Samsung Q1 upgrade to Samsung Q1 Ultra.

Panasonic Toughbook 19 gets tougher, faster, still can’t fly

PanasonicToughbook19Thumb

It now features an Intel Core i5-540UM processor with Turbo Boost for speeds up to 2.0GHz and vPro for motherboard-level security. It also tops MIL-STD-810G certification with the ability to withstand a six-foot drop (probably still won’t pass helicopter test).

OLPC Gets Tossed in Demonstration

Not sure what it is, but seeing electronics smashed, dropped, and blown up is just plain cool.  Case in point is the OLPC XO laptop featured in this video from OLPCNews.com.  The OLPC buzz has been slow lately and the organization appears to be weakening from within, but the little laptop shows that it can […]

Ruggedizing Your Own Device

rugged-ledeb-470-0909
