Take Photos Without Touching Your iPhone Thanks to Bluetooth Headsets

Published

on

One of the cool new features in iOS 5 is the ability to use the volume buttons on the iPhone to take a picture. This means no more fumbling for the on screen shutter release, and missing the moment.

This same functionality extends to headphones with volume controls and even more exciting, Bluetooth headphones with volume controls.

This means you can connect the Apple headphones that came with your iPhone and use it to take photos without giving away what you are doing and losing a cool shot to fake poses.

When you add a Bluetooth headset to the mix, the possibilities are even greater. Because there are no wires needed, you can use it to trigger a group photo without relying on a timer.

Another great use is taking candid shots of babies, kids and pets. Set your iPhone in a safe puppy level position, and when you think you have a good shot, snap away. I guarantee you’ll get shots you never would have if you had to hold your camera and click the shutter button on screen or the iPhone volume button.

If you need to attach your iPhone to something for these group shots, I suggest getting the GorillaPod or the xShot telescoping monopod that allows you to hold your iPhone at just the right angle.

This trick should work with third party camera apps that support the volume button shutter as well.

Coming from Android, and going back and forth between the two devices, I really wish the volume button took pictures like the iPhone. I don’t even bother trying to use my ThunderBolt to take pictures of fast moving puppies, but I can double tap the home button, tap on camera and start shooting with the iPhone. Now, I can pair up my headset and take some fun eye level shots of puppies playing. If only you could use the iPad as a remote viewfinder.

I can’t make this work with my Plantronics Voyager Pro headset. It does, however, work with my Freedom i-connex mini keyboard, which has volume control functions

I have tried this with a jawbone, plantronics and jabra. None of these Bluetooth headsets work. Please advise which one to buy. My trial and error method is wasting money.
