The Dark Knight Rises iOS and Android Game Coming This Summer

As with many major action or superhero movies, The Dark Knight Rises will have its own video game on iOS and Android later this summer.

The new game definitely fits the world of Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe, and features Batman walking around a dark, gritty Gotham City. The trailer mostly shows Batman beating up common criminals, though we assume Bane, Catwoman, and maybe a few other characters will make an appearance in the game.

The trailer says the game will have an open world, which sounds exciting. Recent console games like Batman Arkham City and Akham Asylum also featured open worlds, but none of them let us explore the full Gotham City. Neither featured Nolan’s dark, sadistic universe, either.

Unfortunately the trailer doesn’t give much more information about the game. We’re cautiously optimistic about it, however. It will be cool to explore Gotham on a phone or tablet. Gameloft titles are typically hit-or-miss, however. Big titles like the latest NOVA 3 are usually great, but the company has a lot of not-so-great games as well.

It’s surprising that Gameloft has game for the movie in the works. None of Nolan’s other Batman movies received tie-in games on any platform. Because of that, we wouldn’t be surprised to see a few characters from the other movies in this game. It also means that players will need to know the story of the previous movies, unless the game fills that in.

With the game slated for summer, and The Dark Knight Rises movie scheduled for release on July 20, expect to hear a bit more about this game in the next few weeks.
