The SmartQ 5 MID and Arm: Lacking?

moses_smartq_5_mid_live_4-480x349 ARM processors are on the minds of a lot of folks when it comes to mobile devices these days. Some see them as a real solution for small mobile devices offering better battery life and perhaps lower price points. Granted it is still early in the game and this is only one device, but Chris Davies of SlashGear is linking to an article on UMPCFever that takes a look at the SmartQ 5 MID, which is running Samsung’s 667MHz ARM11 processor. The upshot? The authors think the processor is the weak point and keeps this MID from being making an impact beyond its $132 price point.

Thanks for the link, Warner. tbh I’m really disappointed by the UMPC Fever feedback, I had high hopes for the SmartQ 5 being the price-point wakeup rival MID manufacturers need.

Hopefully better software will make this particular MID more responsive (I’ve no connection with the company, but if I were them I’d be working like mad to streamline as much as possible) and better choices of ARM processors will make future devices more pleasing out of the box.
