The Tom Bihn Checkpoint Flyer Arrives

Published

on

The busy traveling season is upon us, and that means long lines and waiting for folks to pull out their laptop and run it through the scanner. Fortunately, the TSA has been approving a line of “Checkpoint friendly” laptop bags that will hopefully speed up the security check process – at least for those who planned ahead!

One of those new Checkpoint friendly bags is Tom Bihn’s Checkpoint Flyer, which I’ll be reviewing over the next week. My initial impressions: top-knotch quality, roomy, and light. I just showed off the bag to a colleague of mine that travels a great deal and you should have seen her eyes light up. She wants one bad!

We’ll also be giving away one of these Checkpoint Flyers, so stay tuned for that contest.

Meanwhile, checkout this video (after the break) of the Checkpoint Flyer going through the security scanner.

My question is will the TSA (don’t get me started) be aware of these “approved” bags. My experience has been that the enforcement is totally inconsistent. For example, at DFW, my home airport, I can put my cell phone in the same bin with X41T, while at other place they go postal on me.

that is a good question, Ed. I’m sure it will take time for all the personnel to get up to speed.

EdK – So far, we’ve heard nothing but good things from our customers using the Checkpoint Flyer through airport security. No one has (as of yet – knock on wood!) been asked to remove their laptop from the bag.

Is there even a certification process? Anyone with a X200T Tablet sleeve knows that those things should be included under this initiative, the only thing even remotely resembling a pocket is a business card holder on the underside.
