Top 5 iPhone 5 Alternatives [December, 2014]
Apple no longer sells the iPhone 5 through the Apple Store but that doesn’t mean that you can’t buy it. Third-party retailers have it on sale and most of them have it on sale at an absurdly low price point. The price, the device, and the iOS 8 update make the iPhone 5 a device worth considering though there are some top iPhone 5 alternatives that we think you need to rule out before buying.
In 2012, Apple took to the stage to announce a brand new iPhone. That iPhone was the iPhone 5, the first iPhone with a 4-inch Retina Display, the first iPhone with LTE data speeds, the first iPhone with the Lightning dock standard, and the first iPhone to sport a design comprised mostly of metal. It was a hit and many people bought into what Apple was selling.
Last year, Apple announced the iPhone 5s, a follow up to the iPhone 5. Instead of dropping the iPhone 5’s price, the company simply killed the phone off in favor of the iPhone 5c and iPhone 4s. And while the iPhone 5 is no longer on shelves, sites like eBay sell the iPhone 5 unlocked for cheap. It’s still a solid phone but it’s extremely difficult to recommend at this point, especially when you consider the alternatives.
We are constantly bombarded with questions about iPhone 5 alternatives to look at. There are a number of different devices that we could recommend as the smartphone market is full of solid big screen choices but we want to narrow things down a bit and take a look at what we consider the top five iPhone 5 competitors available right now.
These devices represent the devices that we’d recommend to friends and family. And while our list may differ from yours, these are the devices that Gotta Be Mobile editors have selected for recognition this month. We feel like the devices listed here deliver the best, all-around package for this month and this month alone.
With that in mind, here are the five iPhone 5 alternatives for December, 2014.
