Top 5 Reasons to Buy the Moto X Pure Edition (2015)

Published

on

Motorola’s new flagship smartphone for 2015 that will replace the current Moto X was announced back in July as the Moto X Style. It will be released in early September in the United States as the Moto X Pure Edition and it has a huge 5.7-inch HD display. Here we’ll be running down five important reasons users should wait for, and buy the new Moto X Pure Edition.

On July 28th earlier than anyone expected, Motorola unveiled the new 2015 Moto G, and two Moto X smartphones. One being the Moto X Style (aka Pure Edition) and the second being an impressive Moto X Play with a 5.5-inch screen that won’t be coming to the United States. However, the new Pure Edition Moto X for 2015 is still an excellent smartphone, and here’s why.

Now that the Galaxy Note 5, LG G4, and many other devices are available, buyers have a lot of different choices. There are also some new Nexus phones coming soon which should be on buyers radar, but with a 5.7-inch display, a great camera and better battery life, along with an excellent price tag, the 2015 Moto X Pure Edition is worth waiting for.

Motorola took the stage in New York City and did what they do best, and that’s announce some phones that are nearly (or juts as good) as the competition, fully customizable, but will cost hundreds of dollars less than the competition. This year they took a bold approach and won’t offer the Moto X in carrier shelves, and instead buyers will have to get it on Motorola.com, Best Buy, or Amazon. However, that means no bloatware, faster updates, and a few other things.

Now that we know everything about the Galaxy Note 5, the Moto X and its wallet-friendly price is looking really good right about now. Compare its cutting edge specs and awesome customization to what others are offering, and it’s a compelling alternative to the iPhone, Galaxy S6 or Note 5, or even the new OnePlus 2. Here are five big reasons the Moto X Pure Edition could be one of the best smartphones available in 2015, and worth waiting until September to grab one yourself.

Bigger and Better

Not everyone wants a big phone, a phablet, and Motorola knows this. Many Moto X owners were upset when they heard the new device comes with a massive 5.7-inch Quad-HD display, but Motorola made huge efforts to keep the overall size down. In fact, it’s smaller than most devices with a 5.5-inch screen. So while it’s bigger than the 5.2-inch Moto X 2nd Gen from 2014, it isn’t too much bigger.

The Moto X Pure Edition (Style) for 2015 will have a 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD display, extremely thin bezels, dual front facing speakers, and improvements in every aspect over last years model, yet will cost less. It’s bigger, faster, better, more customizable and cheaper, but more on those below.

The image above is a sample released by Motorola comparing the size of the new Moto X Pure Edition (2015) to some current devices. It’s essentially showing potential buyers that while it does have a bigger screen, it won’t be too hard to hold. It’s smaller than the iPhone 6 Plus, smaller than the Galaxy Note 5, and just a hair bigger than the 5.1-inch Galaxy S6. All while having a massive 2k resolution beautiful screen. However, it’s the other four reasons below that will have buyers excited.

Specs

Above we said it is bigger and better, and that’s 100% accurate. The new Moto X Pure Edition has some of the best specs we’ve seen from Motorola. While it doesn’t have the latest 8-core processor some of the competition has, it’s still extremely powerful, capable, and will be more than enough for any and all owners. It will run any app, graphic intensive game, and multitask with the best of them. To make things even better, it runs stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which means the OS hasn’t been covered with TouchWiz like Samsung, and updates will come faster. Cut out carriers, and updates will really come fast. Or at least they should. Here’s the full details for those interested.

Moto X Pure Edition Specs

  • 5.7-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad-HD Display
  • 6-core Snapdragon 808 processor with 3GB of RAM
  • 16/32/64 GB of Storage with a Micro-SD slot for expandable storage
  • 21 Megapixel F2.0 Rear and 5 Megapixel Front Camera (front and rear LED flash)
  • 4k Video, HDR Video, Slo-Mo Video and more
  • Pure stock Android 5.1.1 Lollipop
  • Dual Stereo Front-facing speakers
  • Aluminum Design
  • 3,000 mAh battery with the world’s fastest “TurboPower” charging
  • Unlocked with Universal 4G LTE (Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.)
  • Water-repellent coating
  • Customization with Rubber, Wood, Leather, Metallic Accents & more)

As you can see from the details above this is a pretty great phone. It has the same powerful 6-core processor as the LG G4, bigger screen, and is better than previous models in every way. Users get a choice of storage and can add a micro-SD slot, something many potential Note 5 buyers aren’t too happy about.

However, two of the biggest changes are in our next category.

Camera & Battery

The biggest complaints with the original Moto X, and the 2nd Gen Moto X announced in 2014 were regarding the camera and battery life. Motorola claimed it would last a full day with mixed usage, but still put a tiny 2,300 mAh battery inside. As a comparison, last year the Moto X was 2,300 while the Galaxy S5 was 2,800 mAh. It had the smallest battery out of all the flagship devices released. Users also were upset with a mediocre camera.

In 2015 Motorola fixed both of these. The new Moto X Pure Edition has what the company claims is a class-leading 21 megapixel camera. There’s even an independent review floating around that claims it’s the second best camera on any smartphone available today. With the Galaxy S6 taking first place, the Moto X Pure Edition (Style) second, and the iPhone 6 Plus being in third. That means users will have great battery life and an excellent camera.

Moto-X-turbopower-charging

However, that isn’t all. The Moto X also supports Quick Charging, which in the past promised 0-50% with just 30 minutes on the charger, which is very impressive. With the new Moto X the company took this further and claims to have made Qualcomm Quick Charging or Samsung’s fast charging even faster, and are calling its new feature “TurboPower Charging”.

Motorola claims the Moto X Style will be the world’s fastest charging smartphone. It has a decently large 3,000 mAh battery, but thanks to the 25w TurboPower charger (included in the box) users can get 10 hours of usage after just 15 minutes on the charger. It gets to nearly 20% in just 7 minutes, and 40% in 16 minutes. Likely getting to half-full after only 20 or so minutes on the wall. The Moto X does not have a Type-C USB port.

Customization

Of course, with any Motorola smartphone as of late, even the cheap Moto G, customization needs to be mentioned. The new Moto X Pure Edition is the company’s most customizable smartphone yet. Users will be able to choose 16, 32, or 64GB of storage, black, while or gold for the aluminum bezel, and over 30 different colors, wood backs, leather, or even a new rubber material for added durability. Then the accents and aluminum strip down the back can be customized with metallic colors for even more unique colors.

This means users can get a 16GB Moto X Pure Edition and customize it any way they’d like, with more colors, finishes, or options than any other device and get it shipped right to their door. Pretty impressive, especially for the price. A price which, happens to be one of the biggest reasons to get the Moto X Pure Edition here in 2015.

Price

Everything we mentioned above is only $399. As a comparison, the new Galaxy Note 5 with the same size screen with 32GB of storage is $740. Motorola has confirmed the 16GB Moto X Pure Edition starts at $399 which is for the 16GB model, but it has a micro-SD slot for users to expand that as much as they’d like. However for $449 (according to rumors) the 32GB model will be available, and a little more for the 64GB version.

Motorola is taking a risk by not offering the Moto X Pure Edition in carrier stores like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and elsewhere. Instead, their device has a global fully unlocked 4G LTE radio that works with all carriers. This means there is no bloatware, but also no getting it for $99 on contract, or payment plans for $25 a month like every carrier in the United States. Users will have to fork over $399 or more, and only be able to try the phone before they buy it at stores like Best Buy.

That all said, the Moto X has a bigger and better 5.7-inch display, it’s extremely powerful, has a huge battery that charges quick, tons of customization and all of this only costs $399. Motorola could have a real winner on their hands.

The latest leak, right from Motorola, teases the Moto X Pure Edition goes on sale on September 3rd. We’ll update the moment that date has been confirmed.

No that was for the play i think. This is supposed to be unlocked and available for all US carriers, but it will only be available for purchase on the official site or other retailers like Amazon and Best Buy.

Motorola did offer a payment plan with their Nexus 6 offering, so I don’t think they’ll hold back here either.

Let’s correct the return time. 14 days, Juan Roberto, not 15. Also a lot of reviews are calling this a mid-range phone for a mid-range price. If this is a mid-range phone, then so is the “flagship” LG G4 (which I own), and that is a terrible phone with 63% of owners reporting missed touches on the screen and excessive lag, me included. Moto X has the same processor as the G4. Hopefully with no heavy UI skin and no bloatware, it will run smoother than the G4.

I’d rather get the Moto X pure edition through Verizon . Much much more convenient and don’t have to fork out $400 up front. Very lame and inconvenient. It was so much nicer to just get a new phone through your carrier and it was done.
    :(
