Top 7 Upcoming Smartphones (2014)

Published

on

Those in the hunt for a new smartphone in 2014 are going to be faced with an assortment of options, big and small. There are, however, some smartphones that consumers should keep their eye on over the course of the rest of the year, devices that we think will represent the top smartphone options for the rest of the year.

Every year, we’re guaranteed to see big name smartphones launch. Last year, we saw devices like the Samsung Galaxy S4, iPhone 5s, and HTC One hit shelves. Those three devices are arguably three of the best smartphones ever made. The year before that, the same thing. Apple introduced the iPhone 5, Samsung delivered the Galaxy S3 and we saw Nokia partner up with Microsoft to deliver the well-know Lumia brand of smartphones.

Every single year we’re treated to hardware improvements, software innovations. Smartphones are constantly getting smarter, faster and better than ever before. And it’s not just the Apple’s and Samsung’s of the world that are offering these devices.

Last year’s Moto X, for example, delivered something that the Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5s did not: A customizable design. The LG G2 and its flagship features helped to make LG relevant again in the United States. The Lumia 1020 from Nokia offers consumers one of the best smartphone cameras of all time.

As we move deeper into 2014, these devices will start to get phased out by newer models as the cycle repeats itself. While this is a great thing for many consumers, it complicates things for those who only casually follow smartphone news. Choice in the smartphone world is fantastic, but only when you know what to do with it.

We’re here to do the heavy lifting for you. Here, we want to take a look at the seven devices that we think are the top seven upcoming smartphones. We’ve seen devices like the Galaxy S5 and HTC One M8 hit shelves already but there are still a number of devices still to come.

These are the smartphones that we think consumers should be keeping an eye on and the smartphones that we think have the potential to become best devices of 2014.

LG G3

LG G3

Earlier this week, LG confirmed the LG G3 for arrival in the second quarter of the year. A short time later, its official launch date was revealed: May 27th.

The LG G3 will be the follow up to the successful LG G2, a flagship that competed with the likes of the iPhone 5s and Samsung Galaxy S4. Rumors suggest that it will come loaded with high-end specs and given its pedigree, it's a device that consumers need to keep their eye on.

The rumor mill suggests a 5.5-inch 2560 x 1440 Quad HD display inside a device with smaller bezels than we’ve ever seen before. The LG G3 should come with a quad-core processor at 2.5 GHz, 2-3GB of RAM, and 32GB of internal storage.

While agreeing with you that the Note 3 should have been in the top seven, I’m looking for a good phone for my daughter who is going off to college.
I found this article useful in that regard. I will be looking at the Note 3 as well. You really can’t go wrong, recently, with anything from Samsung! I’ll probably will end up getting her a Note 4 or iPhone 6 w/ it comes out.
      Thanks for the reminder!

Nexus 6 eh? so a 6inch screen? Doubt it. Probably a repeat of the Nexus 5 (2013 vs 2014). I would have got a Nexus 5 2013 but it lacked one feature the other top phones had, an IR Blaster. I’m going with HTC One 2014 because I like the all metal unibody feel… like what is found on my HTC One S… and it and that phone is still going strong two years later.

I think my BIGGEST interest is, will the Galaxy note 4 have the AMOLED display. I always thought it to be SAMSUNGS #1 dealing point. But the last device I bought from them, the note 2014, did not have an AMOLED display. So, that is my biggest concert. Will Samsung continue the AMOLED display? And if the answer is no, then the question would become. Who will pick up the OLED display? As I don’t think it has to be Active Matrix, to be gorgeous. And Samsung does not hold the rights to a ‘regular’ OLED display.

Wow I cannot believe they release a new version of any phone nowadays every freaking year. I shelve out and spend my entire paycheck and only to last for a year? We should get discounts as far as buying towards the newer let’s day galaxy s4 version so I can get the s5 for cheap and with discount.
