TwelveSouth Announces SurfacePad iPhone Case

Published

on

TwelveSouth’s newest iPhone case is for those who want a thin, attractive case that also covers the screen of the iPhone.

The new SurfacePad for iPhone is a relatively simple case for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S that covers both the back and front of the iPhone. The case wraps the iPhone in a thin layer of leather that sticks to the back of the iPhone. The case also has a flap to cover the screen of the iPhone when it’s not in use.

The SurfacePad doesn’t offer much drop protection, but it will protect the iPhone from keys in a pocket, or anything else that threatens to scratch the glass screen. It’s also incredibly lightweight. Both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S versions of the SurfacePad weigh less than one ounce so users will barely notice that it’s there when in a pocket.

TwelveSouth uses an adhesive keep the SurfacePad secure on the iPhone. The company claims the adhesive doesn’t leave any residue on the iPhone, and that users can remove and re-install the SurfacePad many times without fear of the adhesive wearing away.TwelveSouth SurfacePad for iPhone

That means users can use the SurfacePad on a regular basis and switch to something like a LifeProof or Otterbox case when they need more protection.

The flap that covers the screen also serves as a stand for the iPhone. The back of the SurfacePad is split down the middle so it can fold back and prop the iPhone on the front cover. The case only serves as a stand in landscape mode, but that’s still more than other cases offer.

TwelveSouth offers the SurfacePad for iPhone in three colors: Red Pop, Modern White and Jet Black. All colors are available for both iPhone designs. The case costs $34.99 for both the iPhone 5 and iPhone 4/4S versions, and is shipping now.

Very pretty case, I just worry that it may not protect against my keys, they are deadly! Is this the lightest of protection?

After 3 weeks of regular business use the item began to split between the seams. I have come to expect better quality fromTwelveSouth, especially for three weeks of use. I contacted Bridget at TwelveSouth customer service and I was instructed to send the item back to them and once recieved, they will send me a replacement.

I am very disappointed to have to leave my new iPhone 5 unprotected because of TwelveSouth’s quality control issues. I use my phone regularly for business and find it very unacceptable to have to purchase another TEMPORARY case because of TwelveSouth’s lack if quality control.

This will be the last TwelveSouth product I purchase.

The quality issues were a known by TwelveSouth, I enclose a response by them after I contacted them””I can assure you that we know our first shipment of SurfacePads have had a higher rate of failure that we see as acceptable. It is not something that we have ignored, but thanks for your feedback.”
