The update, which the carrier confirmed through its Facebook page, is now available to Galaxy S2 owners through manual installation, the instructions of which can be found on U.S. Cellular’s website. The process appears to be fairly simple as it just requires users to download and use a Simple Upgrade Tool to get the Android 4.0 ICS update downloaded and installed properly.

The Galaxy S2 on U.S. Cellular finally got its Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich update.

Those who are looking to make the jump from Android Gingerbread to Android 4.0 ICS will definitely want to set aside some time to download and install the update as it requires a number of easy steps to get ICS up and running. Once that occurs, Gingerbread will finally be replaced by Google’s Android 4.0 operating system which brings a number of new features to the table.

Android 4.0 brings a whole new user interface to the table that is much improved from Android Gingerbread. It also brings improved Notifications and re-sizable widgets, more lock screen functionality, improved functionality for spell check and typing, a new Favorites tray and home screen folders just to name a few of the features. Overall, it’s a huge improvement over the previous version of Android that was running on the U.S. Cellular Galaxy S2 and it’s an update that users will want to install as quick as they possibly can.

Now that the update has rolled out, Galaxy S2 owners on U.S. Cellular will likely be wondering where their Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update might arrive. We’ve heard that the Galaxy S2 Jelly Bean update could roll out in the next few weeks, Rogers in Canada has it slated for late January, but U.S. Cellular Galaxy S2 owners should not expect it that soon given that ICS just rolled out.

At the very least, expect a little bit of a wait and it could be that U.S. Cellular scraps the update altogether. Only time will tell. At this point though, owners will want to enjoy Android 4.0 ICS and all it has to offer.
