U.S. Prepaid Carrier Boost Mobile Will Also Offer iPhone 4, 4S Starting September

Published

on

It looks like U.S. wireless prepaid carrier Cricket Wireless won’t be the only one in the pre-paid market to offer Apple’s iconic iOS smartphones. Following news that Cricket Wireless would partially subsidize the cost of the iPhone models it offers users on its prepaid networks–on prepaid, it is customary for customers to pay the full retail price of the phone–in exchange for a locked device, it appears that Sprint-owned Boost Mobile may also follow a similar strategy come this September.

According to a report on TechnoBuffalo, the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S will be available on Boost Mobile starting in September, though device pricing is still uncertain at this point. It’s not clear if Boost will follow Cricket’s lead in a partially subsidized iPhone on prepaid or if the carrier will force customers to pay the full retail price of the iPhone without a contract. Boost Mobile’s parent Sprint currently offers the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S on its post-paid Now Network.

Interestingly, the devices’ debut on Boost in September may give indication to when Apple would release its next-generation iPhone 5. With a new iPhone release, historically that means that last year’s models would get discounted. This would make the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4 even more affordable without a contract.

Sprint has been trickling down some high-end Android smartphones from its lineup to its prepaid brands Boost Mobile and Virgin Mobile U.S.A. The move would now allow its prepaid user base to now be able to own an iPhone.

On Boost Mobile, pricing is more affordable with a $50 per month unlimited plan with ‘shrinkage.’ Shrinkage rewards customers in good standing–those who pay their bills on time–by reducing their monthly bill in $5 increments until they reach a cap of paying just $35 per month for unlimited talk, text, and web.

With a bill as low as $35 per month, I am not sure it really makes much sense to go post-paid and pay a bill in excess of $70 per month for non-unlimited to carriers like Verizon Wireless, AT&T, or even Boost parent Sprint. Depending on device pricing, Boost Mobile has Cricket’s $55 per month unlimited plan beat.

Okay, the $50 plans are for non-smartphones. Android phones, for example, cost $55 per month on Boost. Second, the plan is not unlimited. As you noted, data is limited to 2.5GB per month. Third, Boost is garbage, and iPhone users are snobs. The two can never marry.

I use Virgin Mobile, Boost’s incestuous brother. The plans are good, but they are not for those seeking an iPhone. They require patience and significantly lower expectations of the quality of service and of customer service than the iPhone’s target market can handle.

I beg to differ also…I have tried Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T and now have had Virgin Mobile for the past couple years. I completely disagree with the opinion that “They require patience and significantly lower expectations of the quality of service and of customer service”…so not true! I think Virgin Mobile is great! I have dealt with customer service a few times and had my issues taken care of quickly and efficiently. I have great service and love that I don’t have to sell my soul by signing a contract for the next few years. The only negative was the phone technology was behind the times and it looks like that is in the process of being remedied..yay! I think some people, like “fact checker” will just never be satisfied…too bad!

I have had boost for 3 years they have awesome service I have never had a single problem with it except that I wish they had IPhone unfortunately I’ve had to settle for red pocket to use an iPhone but still keep my boost android due to the inferior service of red pocket if that makes me a snob so be it. As for boost getting iPhone it can’t come soon enough.

I beg to differ. I own a blackberry (smartphone)and have Boost service. I currently pay $45.00 per month unlimited everything with excellent service. I plan to purchase an iPhone through Boost when they become available and will continue the excellent service I have experienced for the last 2 years. Maybe you should check your facts.

I also have Boost at $45/ month. Had it now for over 2 years. I have a Blackberry. I was paying $121.50/ month under a 2 year contract with sprint. Sprit customer service sucks. I never had to call boost service yet. Can’t wait for the iPhone with Boost. Nobody should sign with Sprint when Boost offers better service for half the price. Go to Bestbuy. I did and everything works fine.

Thank you Sue, Bill and Breanna for your positive words about Boost Moble. I totally agree with the best price for everything for $45 a month.

JUST WAIT until OCTOBER 5th FRIDAY to buy your IPHONE for Boost Moble.

Everything — unlimited minutes, text, messages, pictures, video downloads with the BOOST Shrinkage Plan starts at $55/ month then every 6 on time monthly payments will go down $5 to a low $45 a month for the smartphone —- IPHONE — or if you still want the old Blackberry. I’ll trade my Blackberry for an IPHONE. I ‘ll be first in line.

Will you buy an IPHONE with Boost Shrinkage? Before the end of the year?

I have worked with Verizon for 3 years on a contract and switch to Boost and now have used Boost for 2 years. I pay $45.00 a month and receive unlimited text, calls and web use. It’s amazing. Adding an iPhone to the list of products will attract a number of new customers. I plan to buy the iPhone 4/iPhone 4S when it is offered as a Boost product. There is no negatives on my end when it comes to talking about Boost.

I tried the other two brother companies you stated , the phones are cheaply made and the service sucked, I believed I replaced my phone every 3 months, because It would stop working or act up then finally not charge. With my 4 years with boost I have no complaints. The service is great, the phones are nice, which I have an android now and will be upgrading to the Iphone once released in September.Only one problem I have had this year, which you will have with any network, is when In our area there was a bad storm and the sprint network towers were down, but called boost customer service and talk to a live rep and they gave me a credit on my account that was there the same day. so um yeah! I am sticking with boost with my shrinkage plan and unlimited web, text, calls.

Love boost mobil. But got really frustrated with the bad customer service line I think boost should change the automated service so when we tried to say customer service it would stop asking for some silly id number. What is the best way to talk to someone

Hello, I’m a current iPhone 4S user, I’d like to say this phone is amazing. Siri, helps me work seamlessly. I work with Island Def Jam and reccomend this phone to anyone! But, I don’t think it should be on a “Pre Paid plan” due to it making Apple Inc., look cheap. Which they arn’t. I use Apple products in my every day life, and love them. So, I thinl if some “Kid” wants an iPhone they should work and get it the right way. NI understand, they can’t sign a 2 year contract on a iPhone or any phone. So, I’m not sure…but, thanks for reading my so “call” dumb idea’s. But, I wrote this as a business man.

There is so much wrong with this comment. I am a 19 year old college student who works around 40 hours a week. I use to have 2 jobs and such but now during school I am just working one job to the fullest. I pay for all of my own bills, including my phone bill and I don’t see how it’s very fair that I can’t have an Iphone. The fact of the matter is, kids are spoiled. My friends that are in highschool ALL have Iphones. I see, 15 year olds with Iphones. If they can have an Iphone, I should be able to as well. I think it’s about time I use a smart phone, because i’ve had the same crappy phone for the past 5 years. It’s so old, I don’t even know the name of it. So please, if you don’t think i’m working hard enough to invest in an iphone, you are wrong. If I can buy one for 400 dollars, with a prepaid plan, I would be more than satisfied. Getting an Iphone the right way, is anyway you get an Iphone. If your mom buys one for you, great. If you buy one yourself, awesome. But please, don’t limit my service to getting an Iphone because you think some people might not “work hard enough” for it.

Business man? I think that term is being used loosely if you’re describing yourself. You can barely write and intelligible comment, which makes me seriously doubt your ability to compose a professional e-mail. Pipe down and be quiet, sir.

Dumb ideas is rite not the kind of business man I want on my team. From a business stand point boost joining arms with Apple is a genius idea which will boost sales for both Apple and boost. My company as been a dedicated supporter of apple products for years and will continue to do so whether they link arms with boost or not. However from a business stand point it will save my company money to have 35 field agents on boost at 55 a month than on AT&T at 120 a month I don’t know what business your running but my calculator shows a 65 dollar savings per agent at a total savings of 2,275 dollars per month. Unfortunately people like you give Apple a bad name (Snob) get your nose out of the air and act like the business man you claim to be.

Ok so whoever said tht Boost Mobile sucks is a liar. I hav Boost Mobile and love it. When i went to Best Buy looking for a cheaper plan, i had most likely planned on gettin Virgin Mobile. After talkin to the sales rep, he told me from personal experience tht Boost Mobile is alot better than Virgin Mobile due to the quality of service. I agree with tht sales rep. Ive neva had Virgin Mobile but Boost Mobile right now is great. Ive always wanted an iphone and was even researching on if and how to put one on a Boost Mobile plan. I am now planning on getting an iphone when they come out on Boost Mobile.

its amazing how the ignorant stick their nose in the air on prepaid cell phone service. however ive used sprint, verizon, tmobile, all garbage rip offs. never could get a consistand phone bill or good explanation on why. so those company no longer live here and boost does. now i have a $45.00 a month android phone bill w/ shrinkage. ulimited txt, talk, web, you see, smartin up people. boost is the future of cell phone billing. cant wait to purchase iphone!

I Love Boost! The service is great, the billing is phenominal, and though I agree customer svc line can use some help Boost defiantely is the more reasonable choice and it would wise Sprint get Boost on the Iphone trail cause that’s the more business is AND its not a cheap decision its A WISE ONE. That comment was CHEAP.
