UK Retailer Already Listing Nexus Prime on Website

Published

on

While little is still known about the Nexus Prime, except that it would be coming this fall alongside Google’s next generation Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, the device is being listed under its Nexus Prime name by UK retailer Handtec.

There’s still some confusion as to what the final name of the device would be called. Earlier, we had reported that the Nexus Prime may possibly launch as the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and earlier rumors posit that a Verizon-based device may be called the Droid Prime.

What we do know, according to the retailer, about the Nexus Prime matches some of the earlier leaked and speculated specs, including a Super AMOLED HD screen that supports a 720p HD resolution of 1280 X 720 pixels. The device, unfortunately, like the Nexus S currently, will only come with a 5-megapixel camera, but the video capture resolution has been increased from 720p HD to 1080p HD. Front-facing camera, dual-core Texas Instruments 1.5 GHz CPU, and 1 GB RAM round out the specs.

The device could potentially launch with the curved glass display found on the Sprint Nexus S 4G and T-Mobile Nexus S that measures 4.6-inch. Handtec is showing the device in a sleek shell with edge-to-edge glass and metallic chrome trim.

too bad that picture is fake. first off, it looks like a blackberry 89xx curve with no buttons, just a large screen.

second, and most important thing, that splash screen is not something designed by google. that is the splash screen used in many “dasbamf” android ROMS. i know that because my HTC Thunderbolt running dasbamf has that exact splash screen.

The splash screen is the same splash screen as what was on the stock Nexus One; which is why this fake photo.

Why is “only” 5MP unfortunate? Do you really use larger then 2560×1920 images??

Let me also add that the more megapixels on a small sensor reduces overall image quality, especially in low light. The sensor is very small, so each pixel on the sensor really starts to be affected by noise at these small sizes.

I’m with ya here.  I’d much rather have less MP with better optics than the opposite.  I don’t see why people want so much resolution from a phone camera.  Are these people printing poster size pictures from their phones?

I hope there wrong on the 5mp cam, 8 would be sweet.
HDMI would be awesome, but I’m thinking it’ll be a special connection cable from Samsung.
    Sim card would be cool.
16 gig internal storage would be killer!

It’s a phone camera, it’ll be garbage no matter the resolution. And increasing the resolution will only backfire anytime other than in broad daylight. Even ISO 400 looks like a snowstorm on “good” camera phones.

I really hope this phone comes out in the U.S. with all of the rumored specs in October. I’m passing up the Droid Bionic for it.

I’m sure it will be like that on most carriers, but Verizon will get the “Droid” variant that runs Gingerbread, has a ton of plastic, hard buttons, with a giant Verizon logo across the top.

no no please verizon can you not mess with this phone in its awesomeness to make it “exclusive” (dumb it down throw bloatware on it and call it a droid)

Have we forgotten already that verizon started this android craze with a vanilla android phone by the name of what? the DROID the motorola DROID. it was an innovative idea by both google and motorola and verizon was just the lucky bastard to show it off first. If they once again get lucky with getting the droid prime first you can bet your ass they wont fuck with the first phone running 4.0. BUT be sure they most definitely WILL fuck with the phones running 4.1 and so on.

Actually the mytouch was the first vanilla android. The Droid just had some great advertising behind it. But hell Im still rocking the Nexus One stock, so I can’t wait for this phone to come out. Vanilla Android all the way.
