Unboxing Photos of the TEGA v2 Tablet/Slate

Published

on

Here are some unboxing photos of the TEGA v2 Tablet/Slate and some iPad comparison shots. After all that’s the competition. It just arrived via Fedex a few minutes ago. I’m sure there will be more to come over the weekend.

Some early notes:

Setting up the Tablet with Windows 7 (including a round of Windows Update) took about 35 minutes. No need to attach a keyboard to work through the menus, but the process isn’t that intuitive unless you’ve done this before.

Android 1.6 seems to have some issues getting and holding a WiFi signal, so I’m guessing I won’t be commenting on that at the moment.

Like all touch devices, this is a fingerprint magnet.

In my first impression I’m not that thrilled about the size and shape. It feels really awkward. We’ll see how that tracks with more usage.

The second time the device tried to return from sleep in Windows 7, it didn’t.

Warner, the comparison pics are very nice. Even though the TEGA v2 can run Windows 7, with only touch, it really is a consumption device and iPad competitor. The size of the iPad was too big for my liking and the TEGA v2 is even longer. For size, I would be more attracted to the Samsung Galaxy Tab. I’m looking forward to an inkshow with Thomasin’s impressions.

Size and shape, looks like a real computer compared to that other thing. It would have been nice to see side by side pictures with some tablet pc rather than a marketing sensation.

Fingerprints disappear almost magically from the iPhone 4 if you keep it in your pocket. Does the iPad not have the same coating? Does the TEGA v2?

This is another reason that slates should be carried around in pockets.

BTW, it is annoying to get a message when trying to post saying: “In order to properly log you in, your browser needs to accept cookies from all domains. Open up Settings > Privacy. Then, make sure Accept cookies from sites is checked. Also, make sure Accept third-party is checked as well.” Is it really necessary to track posters with third party cookies?
