Verizon Droid MAXX & Droid Ultra Shipping Dates Slip (Updated)

It looks like the Verizon HTC One launch isn’t the only one that is muddled in a bit of confusion as the Motorola Droid MAXX and Droid Ultra shipping dates at Verizon have slipped from August 20th to August 29th for unexplained reasons.

Originally, both the new Motorola Droid MAXX and the Droid Ultra were pegged with release dates on August 20th. Their Droid Mini counterpart was tagged with an August 29th release date, the same date that has been rumored to be the Verizon HTC One release date as well. And while the Droid Ultra and Droid MAXX were both expected to ship by August 20th, up until recently, both devices are now listed as shipping out by August 27th.

Update: Verizon tells Gotta Be Mobile that “customers who pre-ordered prior the date changing, will have their device shipped by the original date.   And, for customers pre-ordering now, the date on the website is when the phones will ship” So, it doesn’t appear that the release date has slipped, only that the shipping date has slipped. 

The change was recent as a cached version of Verizon’s website shows that the Droid MAXX was listed as shipping out by August 20th as recently as earlier today. And with Verizon mum about the reasons for the change, it’s unclear as to exactly why the shipping dates have been pushed.

It could be that the initial batch of pre-orders sold out, or, it could be that their release dates were pushed back further into the month. We’ve reached out to Verizon for clarification but have yet to hear back.

While this is small, it’s yet another Verizon mystery in a month of full of them. For one, the Verizon HTC One is still without a release date, after being announced all the way back in early June of this year. The Moto X, which was announced earlier this month, is rumored to be coming out at the end of the month but thus far, Verizon hasn’t confirmed a date.

The Droid MAXX and Droid Ultra are expected to compete against the Moto X and the HTC One for the hearts and minds of consumers. Both devices offer improvements over the Droid RAZR HD and the Droid RAZR MAXX HD including new software, improved designs, better battery life, and more.
