Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 Update Coming Soon?

Published

on

While other Nexus devices, including the Nexus 4 and Sprint Galaxy Nexus, have received their upgrades to the latest version of Jelly Bean, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, the Verizon Galaxy Nexus remains stuck on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. However, from the looks of things, it could be that the device gets Android 4.2 Jelly Bean at some point in the near future.

Back in November, the Nexus 4, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and the GSM Galaxy Nexus all received the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update which is currently Google’s most current piece of Android software. While an incremental update, it still brings quite a bit to the table including more features for Google Now, a gesture-enhanced keyboard, Quick Settings and lock screen widgets, to name a few.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 update could roll out soon.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus Android 4.2 update could roll out soon.

Earlier this year, the update rolled out to the Sprint Galaxy Nexus leaving the Verizon Galaxy Nexus as the only Nexus in the U.S. slated for the update to be without it. However, it now looks like a remedy could be coming soon.

According to the Verizon Support account on Twitter, it looks like an update will be coming to the Verizon Galaxy Nexus soon. The account does not confirm the name of the update, and oddly claims that Samsung will be pushing it out. It claims that it has no release date for the update but that it will be soon.

Support accounts aren’t always the best source of information but at this point, Verizon Galaxy Nexus owners will likely take what they can get. Also something to keep on mind is that it doesn’t refer to Android 4.2 specifically but we can’t think of any other Verizon Galaxy Nexus update that would be coming soon.

It appears that Verizon’s support page for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is also now displaying a “Coming Soon” sign as well. This is possibly where the representative pulled the information from.

The “Coming Soon” notice was not up on February 8th, according to the Wayback Machine, but did show up earlier this month as the cache’d site shows it live as of February 17th. So, it was placed there only a short time ago.

This likely means that something is on the way, and whether or not it’s Android 4.2 remains to be seen. However, all signs point to it being Android 4.2 as the Verizon Galaxy Nexus is lagging in terms of an update.

This is Verizon’s last chance to retain me as a customer. I buy Nexus products, not Verizon or Samsung products, and will switch carriers accordingly (after nine years) when the next Nexus phone comes out. Show me the update, Verizon!

    Too little, too late.
Note this is 4.2.2. And that has been out for how long? A month? This (if true) SHOWS that Verizon is well capable of putting an update out in a far more timely manner. It’s proof that these Verizon bastards have been holding out on us.

I will believe it when I see it. I, too, am a Nexus user though still chained to Big V.
