Verizon Galaxy Nexus Could Be Last Nexus Device to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

Published

The Samsung Galaxy Nexus will likely be the last device, among the announced devices, to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update.

Earlier today, Vodafone Australia revealed that the Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update might be close. The carrier has said that the Nexus S’s update has been approved and that the Android 4.1 roll out by Google is scheduled for 1:00pm AEST, 19th July 2012.

If true, that means that the update is scheduled to roll out five hours from now. And if that’s the case, the Nexus S, the aging Nexus phone that it is, will receive the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update before the Galaxy Nexus.

The Verizon Galaxy Nexus could be last to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The Galaxy Nexus might very well be last in line amongst the initial devices set to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Those devices include all Galaxy Nexus devices, the Nexus S, as well as the Motorola Xoom.

While confirming the Nexus S Android 4.1 Jelly Bean roll out for the Nexus S, Vodafone also revealed that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus update is also being prepared.

Here is what Vodafone had to say, specifically, in regards to the Galaxy Nexus Android 4.1 update.

Manufacturer preparing update for submission to Vodafone for testing.

This should mean that the carrier is still waiting for Google to send out the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. And, assuming that Galaxy Nexus carriers get the software at a similar time, this means that the Galaxy Nexus roll out could be a ways off.

And with American carriers notorious for being slow to getting updates out, we could certainly see Verizon and Sprint lagging behind carriers like Vodafone in terms of a roll out date.

In any event, it looks the non-HSPA+ Galaxy Nexus devices could be the last amongst the initial batch to get the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and if we had to guess, the American carriers will likely be the last in line.

And the GNexus continues to poison the Nexus brand.

You would think that, at least based on past roll outs, the newer devices would get the upgrade first. See: Droid RAZR/Droid RAZR MAXX and the Droid Bionic with ICS. Apparently, not the case with the Nexus. Android updates continue to boggle my mind.

Wonderful devs here in the states had the Verizon JB ROM out the day after its non-toro release. Been running it for a week. THATS THE BEAUTY OF A NEXUS! (Oh, and fu Verizon.) Can’t wait for LiquidSmoot’s version!

I’ve also had it since week one. there was never any doubt that Verizon would make sure us GNex owners would be last in line. thanks Adam for all the Nexus articles.

If your using a stock Gnex and waiting for OTA updates you might as well have bought an LG. The phone is an empty platform waiting to be rooted and flashed

Well the Battery in my Vz SGN took a dump on me this past Monday. I had insurance through Best Buy but after talking to the nice lady she suggested that I give Samsung a call and see what they could do. So I gave Samsung a call and they emailed me a UPS label and I shipped it off to them Yesterday (7/18).

I’m HOPING that when I recieve it back that it will have some BUTTERY goodness loaded on it for me (crosses finger, toes & eyes)lol
