Verizon Galaxy Nexus Release Date Delayed, No Longer December 9th?

Published

on

The Galaxy Nexus is one of the most anticipated phones of the year, specifically the Verizon Galaxy Nexus with 4G LTE.

While the Galaxy Nexus release date on Verizon was all but confirmed for December 9th, it looks like the phone will once again be delayed — a move that reminds me of the troubled launch of the HTC ThunderBolt.

This morning we heard from a source that Verizon employees had received an email telling them that the Galaxy Nexus release date had been pushed back.

A local store confirmed the delay, but would not share more details about why the Galaxy Nexus was not launching on December 9th and when we might expect to actually purchase the Galaxy Nexus.

Droid-Life confirms this delay with a new screenshot of the Equipment Guide which no longer has a December 9th Galaxy Nexus launch date. Instead, it says, “launch date is coming soon.”, which is shown in the image below.

Galaxy Nexus Release Date Delay

Galaxy Nexus Release Date Has Been Delayed.

Hopefully the Galaxy Nexus release delay isn’t tied to an actual phone issue, but rather the 4G LTE SIM issues that have been hampering the use of some Droid RAZR devices.

This wouldn’t be the first time that a 4G LTE issue delayed a smartphone launch, and I’m betting it won’t be the last.

Stay tuned for more Galaxy Nexus news.

considering there was never actual confirmation of Dec 9th, you can’t exactly state “No Longer December 9th” …. that being said …. WHAT A BUNCH OF HORSESHIT!!!!!!

How much proof do you want?  We have the leaked document change.  We have confirmation from a store and several other sources that it has been delayed.  You aren’t going to get confirmation from VZW until the day before the actual launch.  They are playing it extremely safe.

Last week I saw a news on MBC Korean TV about 4G LTE phones works in Korea.
While using a landphone if someone call to a LTE phones, the landphone speakers makes really big buzz sound and never stop until stop using a LTE phone.

Just talked to my local store… said they thought it was going to be friday but now things have changed.  They were hoping for sometime next week.  Almost 2 months since the announcement, england has had it for almost a month.  Too bad verizon is the only carrier to give decent coverage out west.

@1ea74affdd35dc0eb0e0df450750dbe8:disqus  I did get the GSM one. Yes I didn’t want to wait and no I don’t need LTE. HSPA+ is fast enough for me. I spend 23 hours a day at either home, work or school where I get wifi ate those 3 places, so no I don’t need LTE. Also I already have 3 phone lines and I’m not gonna start another with Verizon. So I makes perfect sense for me to get the GSM version.

I have said this one several forums: I would not be a bit surprised if Verizon never releases the phone. They don’t like the lack of control.

this is so true Verizon does not even like taking in the ass by apple because there can not add bloat ware to the iphone, but for the Nexus line Verizon will be damned to allow Google to do A.T.M on them   “Asstomouth”.

Really tired of waiting, no longer interested in a phone that never ceases to appear. Now I must force upon myself the Apple iPhone 4S

      12/07/2011 at 2:19 pm

me too.  I’m jumping onto another phone.  maybe the galaxy note.  by the time that it comes out, they probably have quad core processors phones out already.

While I won’t be settling for the iPhone 4S (though it is a good phone), this whole thing is getting a bit ridiculous, and I think it’s all our own fault. Technology blogs and periodicals are whoring over any unreliable screenshot of the device and when it may or may not be released, all because they know there’s a billion search hits a day along the lines of “galaxy nexus release”. This comment is a bit hypocritical, seeing as I’m playing into their lets-see-how-many-idiots-click-our-link-just-because-of-the-title game, but I think it’s worth pointing out. Whether the numerous delays are Verizon’s fault or Samsung’s, we’re all pissed. I’m done fueling the click-fire.

Sadly this is about the only way any news can be gathered. Verizon has never even openly admitted to getting this phone and or supplied a release date.  Google is afraid to upset any of the over powered US cellular carriers.   VZW lied about why Google wallet wasn’t getting included.  There is a want of news, and accurate information and a drought of anything for the thirsty.

      12/08/2011 at 12:54 pm

I fully agree with you 100%. VZW knows regardless of who wants to switch to another phone or carrier by the way makes no sense, because if the constant waiting still will have a major demand for the handset and whether its either their fault or samsungs you have to realize the demand for new and improved products will always outweigh a lil bit of frustration and bickering amongst blogs and consumers.. That’s how its always been and will never end. But I will say this one thing regardless if what I may or will say I can bet if it would have came out on sprint like the rest of the nexus devices besides T-Mobile’s nexus one, it would have been on the market and in stores already in the states…

At this point, who give a shit.
May go with a Razor or Rezound (waiting for the ics update isn’t a big deal, just root til ((and maybe even after)) then) or a 4s instead.

    • mike

      12/07/2011 at 2:22 pm

me too.  i might jump on the Razor or Rezound.  forget this Nexus crap.

I am a current iPhone 3gs AT&T customer and have been considering the Nexus as a purchase and switching to Verizon.  I think I will just go get the 4s and stay on AT&T.  At least HSPA+ isn’t too bad and perhaps some day Verizon can get their act together.  I guess I get a new phone this weekend either way.  Too bad Verizon I gave you a quite a while…

      12/07/2011 at 9:25 pm

I really wanted to wait for the Nexus, but just tired of the delays. I went ahead and got the Razr and couldn’t be more happy with it.

        12/08/2011 at 9:56 am

Looks like that is what I will be doing.  I have a feeling the Galaxy Nexus is going down the same road as the Droid Bionic did.

    12/07/2011 at 1:19 pm

if the LTE issue is the factor, the droid 4 we were expecting should also be delayed…

that should be an indicator to see if this is LTE issue or specific phone issue.

Just got back from Costco and they confirmed December 9, 2010. Not saying which one I’m going to because he confirmed a maximum of 10 phones per store @ 289.99 that is a package deal, either extra battery, case, or other goodies you would normally pay extra for @ Verizon.

Well shit Gary if that’s the real date then can 9 of us cram into your time machine with ya and grab one? December 9th 2010? This release date is a year old!!! I knew big red was screwing us, but wow!

      • Alexnot

        12/07/2011 at 2:52 pm

I played around with one in the store and loved the device. The 4g was working fine and according to management they already have them in stock waiting for the official release… I will be eagerly waiting the release looking forward to selling my Thunderbolt..

Rumor is there is a spectrum policy on the C-block deal from several years ago. Not including Google Wallet caused this violation.

The delay is due to removal the google wallet app. Verizon wants to get the phones without that app as they say they want to wait for better security software for their customers.

    12/07/2011 at 9:12 pm

UPDATE!!   I guess I”m more upset over this damn phone release or non- release than I realized, the corrected  year is 2011. The Costco employee told me that Verizon has not updated them via email that there is any delay and told me they are usually very good at notifying them of any changes, not saying he’s correct but it was somewhat reassuring as he told me to be there at opening this Friday, the 9TH of December, 2011

    12/08/2011 at 6:22 am

This is bad news, but I was expecting the delay, since there was no real confirmation of December 9th. It’s too bad, Nexus sales will definitely be hit hard as people are tired of waiting for this phone and will venture over to the Razr and Bionic. Is the S2 offered by Verizon? That’s a pretty nice looking phone as well.

    • Alan

      12/08/2011 at 9:15 am

No, the S2 is not available. That’s the whole problem.  I would have gotten an S2 months ago and signed up for a data plan, but out of the big 4 cell companies in the US, Verizon is the only one that didn’t opt for it.  Instead, they’re going for a variant of it, the Nexus. In the meantime, the company is missing out on me paying them an additional $30 /mo. for data.  Their loss!

Don’t worry.  The next troll, rumor, or “leak” will be all over the web in the next day or two.  Surely it will raise hopes up and then disappoint everyone when Verizon doesn’t deliver the Galaxy Nexus on the “confirmed” release date.

Keep eating it up.  Short of an official Verizon announcement, I don’t know what everyone is expecting other than to be disappointed as you have been with every GNex release rumor so far.

This is perfect for Verizon.  They get a bunch of us to give up and pick up a Razr or Rezound, which works out better for them.  They will still sell of pile of Nexus units when the time comes, but in the mean time, they will be making Motorola and HTC very happy.  I’m keeping my rooted inc for a few more months ’till the 299.00 price comes down to something reasonable.
