Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release: Everything We Know

The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date still isn’t confirmed but we’ve finally seen it make substantial progress behind the scenes. With a Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release now imminent, we want to take a look at everything we know about one of the last big smartphone releases of 2014.

Samsung’s brand new Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and it’s one that’s intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone thanks to a collection of impressive specs. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus like the Galaxy Note 4.

The Galaxy Note Edge was first announced back in September but it took a few months for it to arrive on carriers inside the United States. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are now selling the Galaxy Note Edge through their physical retail locations and through their online portals, offering consumers a solid alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The Galaxy Note Edge U.S. release isn’t over though.

U.S. Cellular and Verizon also confirmed Galaxy Note Edge releases though neither carrier issued specific release date details in those Note Edge announcements. Since then, we’ve seen several U.S. Galaxy Note Edge details trickle out and earlier this week, Verizon buyers finally got the breakthrough they were looking for.

With the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date now in sight, we want to take a look at everything we know about the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release and the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date itself. This early information will help prepare you for the device’s inevitable release.

Verizon Note Edge Announcement

We know that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge announcement, the final announcement, is close. The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge has passed through several necessary certifications including FCC approval. That’s the big revelation that we were talking about earlier. FCC certification is necessary before a device can be released and before it can be announced so the fact that it’s cruised through means it’s one step closer.

In the past, announcements have come just a few short days after the FCC filings. In the case of the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge, we can’t say for sure, but we did see Samsung announce the U.S. Galaxy Note Edge release date about a week or so after the AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile models passed throguh the FCC’s clutches. Whatever the case, it’s a great sign for Verizon buyers.

Verizon Note Edge Pre-Orders

Verizon’s splash page for the Galaxy Note Edge still says that those who sign up can get the latest information on “product, pre-order and launch details” so there’s a chance that we could still see Verizon offer an early ordering period for the Galaxy Note Edge. We just wouldn’t count on it.

Of three carriers taking Galaxy Note Edge orders, only AT&T offered a way to buy it early. Verizon often mirrors AT&T but with Black Friday a week away and the Galaxy Note Edge an expensive, concept phone, there’s no guarantee that Verizon is going to deliver the pre-order period that it lists on its website. It may just put the phone up for sale.

Verizon Note Edge Release Date

The FCC filing means that the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date has moved closer but it does not offer any specifics in regard to the big day. Thus far, we haven’t seen any concrete details emerge and the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date remains as mysterious as it was two months ago right after Verizon confirmed its arrival.

As we’ve noted, we’re expecting it to arrive in and around Black Friday. Verizon stores, particularly stores inside malls, will probably see heavy foot traffic that day. At the very least, Verizon stores will get a lot of eyes on products. Verizon is in the business of selling phones and data plans and what better way to sell one of its most expensive phones?

Samsung’s website is still listing two colors, black and white, though that’s no guarantee. It also listed black and white models for T-Mobile and Sprint before removing the white model after release. Neither carrier is offering a white version of the Galaxy Note Edge, at least not yet.

Galaxy Note Edge Price

The Verizon Galaxy Note Edge price remains out of reach too though we know that it’s going to be expensive. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are all charging an arm and a leg for the Galaxy Note Edge and Verizon isn’t known for undercutting the competition. Usually, the carrier mirrors AT&T’s pricing structure, at least on-contract. In this case, AT&T is charging $399.99 for the Galaxy Note Edge. Sprint charges $450 but that’s standard for Sprint.

Off-contract, Verizon is typically on the lower end of things. For instance, while AT&T is charging $826 off-contract for the Note 4, Verizon is charging $799.99. Not a huge difference but a difference nonetheless. AT&T is charging $945 off-contract for the Galaxy Note Edge. Sprint and T-Mobile are charging a ton of as well. We should see the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge price fall somewhere between $850 and $950.

Galaxy Note Edge Deals

Simply put, they don’t exist. We haven’t seen any Galaxy Note Edge deals pop up for any carrier, not even in Samsung’s Black Friday offers. Verizon isn’t offering any early deals that we know of so there’s a good chance that consumers will have to pay full price for the privilege of owning the Galaxy Note Edge on Verizon’s network.

We also should note that retailers like Amazon, who typically offer deals on high-end smartphones, aren’t stocking the Galaxy Note Edge. Best Buy is the only major retailer with the Galaxy Note Edge available and it’s charging full price for the Galaxy Note Edge.

Accessories

We will, however, see a bunch of Galaxy Note Edge accessories meet the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge on its release date. Amazon has a number of Galaxy Note Edge accessories available on its website, so does Samsung. We also wouldn’t be surprised if Verizon joined the fun in an attempt to see accessories to buyers during the holidays.

We have not seen the same type of selection afforded to Samsung Galaxy Note 4 users, something that doesn’t come as much of a surprise. The device is a limited edition concept with a unique curved display. It’s not a device that’s in demand and thus, there’s little incentive for accessory manufacturers to go all out for it. Look for the selection to pale in comparison to the Galaxy Note 4.
