Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Update: 5 Things to Know

Published

on

The Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is rolling out and with it new features and some enhancements for the carrier’s flagship models. With the roll out underway, we take a look at everything users need to know about the Verizon Samsung Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 release.

In April, Google confirmed an Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update for arrival. The update is a bug fixer that’s aimed at tackling lingering Lollipop problems on Android phones and tablets. And while the update’s roll out started with Google’s Nexus devices, it has slowly started making its way to other devices including Samsung Galaxy smartphones.

In June, Samsung started rolling out a Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update to the regular Galaxy S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge. Since that day, the Galaxy Android 5.1.1 release has spread to other Galaxy S6 models and to other Galaxy phones like the Galaxy Note 4 and the Galaxy S5.

As we make our way into the summer, we continue to see Samsung Galaxy Android 5.1.1 updates push out and yesterday, Verizon announced two brand new Android 5.1.1 releases.

The Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is confirmed for both the Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge and today we want to take a look at everything Verizon users need to know about their Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update release.

Prepare Your Device

The first thing you should know is that we think you should prepare your Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge for the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update. This is a substantial update for both devices and a little prep work will go a long way towards ensuring a smooth transition from your current version of Lollipop to Android 5.1.1.

We’ve put together a game plan that you should help you. First, take a look at some things to do before installing the Android 5.1.1 update on your Verizon Galaxy S6 or Galaxy S6 Edge. If you’ve got that covered, you’ll want to take a look at our Galaxy Android 5.1.1 release date tips. If this is your first major Android update, these tips will almost certainly come in handy.

Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Rolling Out Now

The Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 5,1.1 updates were confirmed yesterday and we can confirm that they’re currently rolling out the Verizon Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge devices across the country.

Galaxy S6 owners are encouraged to check for the update in the About section of the device settings though you’ll more than likely get a prompt asking you if you want to download and install the new update. The update is a fairly sizable one so you’ll want to make sure that you’re downloading over a speedy Wi-Fi connection. If you find a fast connection, it should only take five to ten minutes.

Stagefright

One of the key elements of Verizon’s Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge Android 5.1.1 updates is a fix for the Stagefright vulnerability that’s gotten a lot of press over the past few weeks and one that caused Samsung (and Google) to reevaluate how they approach security updates. Going forward, Galaxy devices (and Nexus devices) should get more frequent security updates.

Other Enhancements

The update brings a number of other enhancements as well including changes to Advanced Calling, several key bug fixes, an option to turn off wallpaper motion effects, and some changes to the company’s critically acclaimed camera application. It’s more than just a fix for Stagefright issues.

Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Problems

Before you download the update, note that Galaxy S6 users have been struggling with Android 5.1.1 problems. T-Mobile was forced to rush out a big fix to alleviate battery life issues and we continue to see and hear complaints about Samsung’s latest Android Lollipop update.

We haven’t seen any complaints about the Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 update yet but that’s because the updates are extremely new. Both are still rolling out to customers. In the days ahead, we do expect to hear complaints about these two updates.

There’s no way to tell if your device will be impacted and that’s why you need to know about our list of fixes for common Samsung Android 5.1.1 Lollipop problems. Keep these in mind both before, and after, your Verizon Galaxy S6 Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update arrives.

I agree…. my S6 Edge had me contemplating a return back to HTC because of its performance and memory handling. They had to have put something in this update to fix that because she is zipping along like a true flagship device. For a while I was concerned it was due to inferior hardware (Samsung Chip)

i cant get my phone to stop beeping to notify me….FOR EVERYTHING. i checked all my settings for notifications, for each app individually and for the device itself. its super annoying. it will keep beeping until i look at the notification – snapchat, facebook, messenger – anything that send me a notification. has anyone else experienced this or know how to fix it?!?!? please help me :(

Yes. I just got the update on my Verizon Galaxy S6 device yesterday (8/18/2015), and the beeping started immediately after it rebooted. I found that if I turn off Wi-Fi, then the continuous beeping stops. However, now any email I that does notify me legitimately, will continue to notify me until I view the email. Hope that Verizon or Samsung has a fix for this soon. I think I’m going to stop by a store today.

I have had the same problem and it’s driving me nuts. I was about to storm into a Verizon store and throw my $600 phone through their window….lol. I think I have finally resolved it. Go to your settings, Accessibility and turn off notification reminder. Hope this helps.

Carie, Thank you so much for this tip! I was about to go insane with all the incessant beeping for every little thing. I was on the verge of going back to a flip phone.

Not trying to troll here, Adam, but your writing style could really use some succinctness. Really. I’m a former run-on writer myself. This is word soup.

If you ever need a case study on how NOT to write for SEO (the link to this article wasn’t even on my first page of Google results after searching for this very topic), this article is it. Good lord. How many words do you need to use to tell us absolutely nothing?! Terrible, terrible writing.

editing of slo mo videos was changed, and sucks. i liked being able to rename videos as i exported them, and for some reason that ability was taken away. the only way to rename the file is in the file explorer. this can be confusing to find the proper vieo to rename, especially when the thumbnails look very similar. also, the exporting itself has become sloppy, sometimes exporting a slo mo in the raw, conmpletely disregarding the cut i made of it. pretty shitty. they always make pointless changes along side the good ones just to make sure the os is imperfect. kind of like windows 7 to 8. fix the bugs, and leave other stuff that works alone.

I got the s6 update from Verizon a couple days ago. I have an issue which is just annoying… When I have music playing and I open up the camera (including snapchat) it stops the music. Specifically if the song ends while I’m in the app, it pauses it and tells me I can’t play music while recording (which I’m not even doing). It used to let me have snapchat open while I record a song with no problem.
    Anyone else notice this?
    Hope this made sense
