Verizon HTC One: Everything We Think We Know

Published

on

As we head deeper into the summer, the Verizon HTC One features and release date remain unknown even though the device is officially coming to shelves sometime between now and September 21st. In the meantime, it’s time to take a look at everything we think we know about the Verizon HTC One release date, its features and more.

Earlier this year, HTC debuted the HTC One, a device that has been available for months now on carriers like AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile and a device that has emerged as one of the top flight devices in a market that is flooded with big name, big spec’d smartphones.

The success of the HTC One can be attributed, in part, to its high-end specifications which included a 4.7-inch display with 1080p full HD resolution, a quad-core processor that can easily handle multitasking and gaming, an Ultrapixel camera that takes quality video and good low-light photos and a full metal design that is on par with the best that the smartphone market has to offer.

We could see a Verizon HTC One at the Verizon announcement.

The Verizon HTC One remains unreleased, despite being official.

Another reason why the HTC One has been successful is thanks to a larger launch that its predecessor, the HTC One X. While the HTC One X only arrived on AT&T, the HTC One landed on three of the four largest carriers in the United States. And surprisingly, the device isn’t done.

The HTC One was heavily rumored to be coming to the nation’s largest 4G LTE service provider, Verizon Wireless, but it took several weeks for Verizon to officially throw its weight behind the device.

HTC and Verizon made the announcement though the companies were extremely coy on the details, namely, the features, the release date and the pricing for Verizon’s new HTC One.

To this day, the companies remain silent about the HTC One’s details, only saying that it will be touching down this summer. Despite their silence, there are still some details that consumers should know about the HTC One release, price and features.

Here, we take a look at everything we think we know about the upcoming Verizon HTC One.

Verizon HTC One Release Date

The biggest question that consumers have about the Verizon HTC One is about the device’s missing release date. When it was first announced, HTC and Verizon gave it a vague summer release window meaning that it could be released anywhere between now and September 21st which is the last official day of summer.

Thus far, the companies have given no indication that anything is imminent, only saying that they will deliver details closer to the device’s release date which again, remains unknown.

And while we still don’t know exactly when the release date will arrive, we do think that we know what the hold up is. For one, we know that Verizon is still trying to offload units of its Droid DNA and its Droid Incredible 4G LTE, both made by HTC. In fact, Verizon is pushing the Droid DNA through its @DroidLanding Twitter account, likely in the hopes of getting rid of its stock.

Another snag is the HTC One Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update that has yet to roll out to owners of the international device or owners of the HTC One on AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. The Verizon HTC One is heavily rumored to have the update on board and it’s likely that Verizon is either still testing the update, like the other carriers, or that it’s simply waiting for HTC to release the software before announcing the official details. HTC won’t want Verizon to have an advantage over AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile if it can help it.

Rumors also suggest that the device could be three to four weeks away from making its debut, putting it at the end of July. That information comes from a respected HTC leakster and could very well could point to the official timing.

While September remains a possibility, we don’t think that Verizon will wait that long, considering that at that point, the HTC One will almost be six months old and the larger HTC One Max, which is rumored for Verizon, will be swirling in rumors.

We’ve heard from at least one source who would have knowledge of Verizon’s plans who says that the carrier is taking its time with the release and that there is no release date set in stone. That was last week so it’s possible that something may have changed but at this point, it’s safe to assume that nothing is set in stone.

Verizon HTC One Features

Don't expect any surprises when it comes to features.

Don’t expect any surprises when it comes to features.

Oddly, HTC and Verizon have refused to reveal any specifications of the HTC One, instead saying that they will introduce the phone closer to its release. Those expecting something vastly different from the other HTC One models though will likely want to start tempering their expectations though.

While we haven’t see any features confirmed, we have seen HTC tell interested parties to go check out the other HTC One devices on the market in order to get a feel for the Verizon HTC One. We doubt that it would be telling consumers that unless the Verizon HTC One was identical or at least extremely close to the other variants.

What this means is that the Verizon HTC One is likely to have the same benefits and draw backs of the other models including the metal design, minimal carrier branding and lack of a microSD card slot.

Verizon HTC One Price

Unfortunately, we haven’t seen a a price for the Verizon HTC One emerge just yet. However, knowing Verizon, there is only a minimal chance of the HTC One arriving with a discounted price tag.

The carrier’s past suggests that there will be no changes to the formula. The carrier launched both the Galaxy Note 2 and the Galaxy S4 far later than the other carriers though it launched both of those devices with price tags similar to the competition.

The iPhone 5 and the HTC One offer a premium smartphone experience thanks to great build quality and mature software, but which one should you buy?

The Verizon HTC One should cost as much as the iPhone 5.

We expect the Verizon HTC One price to follow in line with the other models which means $199.99 for a 32GB HTC One. We also expect retailers like Amazon to offer discounts on the device on the day that it arrives. Given the device’s age, it’s possible that we could see some massive discounts as retailers try and make it competitive with the other HTC One models.

Honestly, at this point, keep writing these articles. I find more humor in the responses to this nonsensical garbage posing as news. At this point we are all coming back to see what type of written train wreck can be pieced together.

Honestly Adam, you leave Gottabemobile with almost no credibility when you cut and paste this same material on the HTC One day after day. Of course you do it to bring traffic to the website but sadly it only serves to discourage people from taking Gottabemobile seriously. So until you really have something to offer it is best to not write anything.

Adam – Thanks for the updates. You have had the best combination of timeliness, accurate citation of sources and suitably identified informed speculation of anyone covering this. I can pretty much skip other sites on this one. Some of the people complaining about repetition are probably like me — following closely because we WANT that One on Verizon.
