Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Date: What Not to Expect

Published

on

On Friday, the U.S. Samsung Galaxy Note Edge release date finally arrived, months after Samsung and U.S. carriers confirmed its arrival. While the device is now available alongside the Galaxy Note 4 at some U.S. carriers, the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date remains out of reach. Here, we take a look at what we do not expect from the missing Verizon Note Edge release.

Samsung’s Galaxy Note Edge is a concept phone and it’s one that should be intriguing to those that are looking to upgrade to a high-end smartphone. The Galaxy Note Edge specs include a curved Quad HD resolution display, a 2.7 GHz Quad-core Snapdragon 805 with 3GB of RAM, Android 4.4.4 KitKat with Samsung TouchWiz, 16MP camera with Optical Image Stabilization, massive battery, and a thin 8.3mm frame. It also comes with an S Pen stylus.

The company’s ambitious new smartphone was announced back in September but it took a few months for it to arrive on a majority of carriers inside the United States. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are now selling the Galaxy Note Edge through their physical retail locations and through their online portals, offering consumers a solid alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

While it’s nice that the Galaxy Note Edge release in the U.S. has finally progressed to this point, the release is still far from over. U.S. Cellular and Verizon will also carry the Galaxy Note Edge though neither of them has gone into detail about plans for the curved version of the Galaxy Note 4. This has left many prospective buyers looking for answers.

Ahead of the inevitable Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date, we want to take a look at what we don’t expect from Verizon and its upcoming Galaxy Note Edge release. (We already took a look at what we do expect from the release.) This will help set the stage for those of you that are still thinking about buying the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge this holiday season or in the weeks and months ahead.

A Pre-Order

At this point, we don’t expect Verizon to offer a pre-order ahead of the Galaxy Note Edge release. It’s already late to launch and of its rivals, only AT&T offered an early order period. Those pre-orders lasted a week.

Given how late it is, we fully expect Verizon to simply make an announcement and put the device on shelves shortly thereafter. If this was a normal device, a normal Android flagship, we’d expect a pre-order but this is an expensive, limited edition concept that’s late to launch.

If Verizon makes us look foolish and it does offer a pre-order, don’t expect that pre-order to last more than a week. There’s no sense in a lengthy pre-order at this point. We also don’t expect any other retailers, Best Buy or otherwise, to offer up an early order period for the Galaxy Note Edge. Best Buy didn’t offer any for the other models and we haven’t seen any other retailers offer up the Galaxy Note Edge. Well, besides third-party sellers on eBay, but those don’t count.

No Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Date

Do not expect the Verizon to cancel this phone. It’s late to the party but it’s still advertising the device on its website and the device is still listed on Samsung’s website as well. We’ve heard from a lot of people that are growing impatient, especially because this device is so expensive, but Verizon might actually be doing you a favor.

We recommend taking a number of steps before the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date, all in an effort to prepare yourself ahead of its arrival. Which, again, will happen at some point down the road. At the moment, we have a feeling Verizon will get the device out in and around Black Friday (November 28th) so that it can capitalize on all of the foot traffic it’ll likely get on Black Friday.

Release That’s Far Away from U.S. Cellular

We wouldn’t expect the Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release date to be too far off U.S. Cellular’s pace, if U.S. Cellular sets the pace at all. The one thing that U.S. Cellular’s Galaxy Note Edge has going for it is its FCC filing. In other words, it’s cleared for takeoff in the United States. The Verizon model, to our knowledge, has yet to clear the FCC.

Still, we typically see U.S. carriers cluster around one another when it comes to release dates and with only a few weeks left to go in 2014, we can’t see either one of these carriers being too far off the release date of the other.

Multiple Verizon Galaxy Note Edge Release Dates

Do not expect to see multiple Verizon Galaxy Note Edge release dates. That is to say, do not expect there to be a separate release date for the white Galaxy Note Edge. Do not expect Verizon to pull a 64GB Galaxy Note Edge out of its hat. Do not expect Verizon to start carrying another Galaxy Note Edge color down the road. Its initial release date should be its only release date.

A Sell Out

Do not expect Verizon to completely sell out of this device, at least not in the immediate future. AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile are all doing fine after the Galaxy Note Edge release and we get the feeling that the device’s price tag has scared most people away. $400 on-contract for a smartphone is a lot of money, more than most people are willing to part with, especially with the Galaxy Note 4 priced at $299.99.

Galaxy-Note-Edge-1

If Verizon does sell out of the Galaxy Note Edge, it’ll happen weeks and perhaps months down the line when Samsung’s stock starts to dry up and the company starts transitioning to its other devices.

Lack of Galaxy Note Edge Accessories

Do not expect a lack of Galaxy Note Edge accessories. Retailers like Amazon already have a number of items up for sale and so does Samsung. Verizon itself will almost certainly have a few accessories available to purchase in and around the release date though we do not expect there to be tons of wares. This is a concept phone, not the iPhone or Galaxy S, and we don’t expect the same kind of selection. Temper those expectations and you won’t lose your cool when Verizon finally gets this phone out on shelves.

I think Samsung has an excellent marketing plan. They are creating the buzz to gain the maximum impact on sales. I am not happy with their marketing plan.

Part of this article’s title is, “what not to expect.” I’ll tell you what not to expect, then note edge. I’m a tmobile customer. The 14th was their latest release date. It’s the 19th & their best response is to have you order it & that they expect to have it shipped to you in 2-4 weeks. My online experience may have been better, with their 1-3 week estimate.

My co-worker is a Sprint customer, and she had to order her Edge last Friday & it was sent to the store today, So her wait was exactly a week, Not bad…..But waiting on Verizon is killing me right now with this wait on the Edge, I read something about “maybe” Black Friday, I am crossing my fingers.

Why has there been no news about the Verizon Note Edge release date since November… She’s anyone have any info? Are we still expecting this phone in 2014?
