While the Motorla Droid 4 is essentially a Droid RAZR with a slightly smaller screen and a physical keyboard, it does have an extra feature that Verizon hasn’t spent much time talking about. The Droid 4 has an option to charge wirelessly via inductive charging, as long as you’re not afraid to spend some extra money for the privilege.
Verizon is selling a Wireless Charging Cover for the Droid 4 for $39.99. The cover replaces the battery door that comes on the Droid 4, and enables inductive charging. From there all you need to do is put the Droid 4 on a charging pad.
Unfortunately, the power mat isn’t included so you have to add your own, but a quick trip to Amazon.com or Best Buy should get you a pad from Duracell’s Powermat or Energizer. The downside is that the pads will cost almost as much the Wireless Charging Cover itself, if not a bit more.
With the 4G LTE radio inside the Droid 4, an easy charging option sounds like a great idea. LTE can take up a lot of battery, so charging the device throughout the day would make sure you don’t end up with a dead smartphone at the end of the day.
Sure, you could simply plug the Droid 4 into the wall charger or a computer, but a charging pad is more convenient. True, $40 for the door alone is a lot to pay for convenience, but if you can afford it, the Wireless Charging Cover for the Motorola Droid 4 can save you a lot of hassle in the long run.
