Verizon Share Everything Delivers Shared Data, Mobile Hotspot & More

Published

on

Shared data plans on Verizon are finally a reality, and Verizon didn’t stop there.

The new Shared Everything plans on Verizon offer unlimited shared minutes and unlimited messaging as well as shared data plans between 10 devices.

Not only has Verizon doubled the number of devices users can put on a family plan, they’ve also made 4G LTE tablets an attractive option with $10 a month access when added to a Share Everything plan. And, tablets don’t need a contract to join a plan for this price.

It gets even better. Every phone and tablet on the Share Everything plan includes mobile hotspot at no additional charge.

Sound good? I’m already looking to switch my family plan over when the new shared data plans launch on June 28th. The plans are open to new and existing Verizon customers.

Share Everything Plan Details

Verizon Share Everything Plan LogoThe new Verizon Share Everything plans offer some of the most straightforward plan pricing we’ve seen from a cell phone company.

Pick the number of device to connect in the first column, and then the monthly data amount needed on the right, and add the numbers up. That’s how much the Share Everything plan will cost per month.

Don’t forget that this includes the Mobile hotspot feature as well as unlimited minutes and texts. The plan works for 3G and 4G LTE devices so you can mix the iPhone 4S with the Samsung Galaxy S III. There is only an unlimited plan offer for smartphones.

How Much Can You Save with Share Everything

With four data smartphones on our family share, the bill averages around $300 a month, and when my dad gets a smartphone in July it would have jumped to at least $330 per month.

With the new Share Everything Plan we’ll upgrade to unlimited minutes and share 10GB of Data, with mobile hotspot functions, and pay about $300 a month. I have a feeling 10GB may be a bit much for data on our account, so we might be able to knock the data portion down to 6GB per month and drop the bill to about $280 a month.

Verizon Share Everything Calculator

Use the Verizon Share Everything Calculator to see how much you can save.

That sounds incredibly expensive, but it’s for 5 smartphones with a lot of minutes used. At the least, these new plans will save my family $30 a month and likely save $50 a month, while adding unlimited calling and adding the mobile hotspot feature that normally adds $30 a month to my line while traveling.

Verizon Shared Data Plans - HotspotIn total the new family data share plans on Verizon will save me between $360 and $600 a year on the basic plan. Add in another $90 in savings to account for three months of mobile hotspot usage which is now included and there’s $450 to $690 in savings!

Of course this means I will have to give up unlimited data, but with three average use smartphone users on the plan I still have plenty of data for my lines.

Verizon has a handy calculator to show you how much your family plan will be on the new Share Everything plans.

Check out the Share Everything Calculator

Verizon Shared Data Plans - Data Only

Share Everything includes deals on data only plans.

You can even add in basic phones to the plan at a cheaper price or opt for data only plans with a tablet and a USB modem or hotspot like the JetPack MiFI 4620L with a shared plan.

Are you switching to the shared data plan goodness of Verizon Share Everything?

This is a garbage plan. Yes for families this might be good, but for the individual user that has 4G and uses it a tad more than the average person, it really F’s their sht up. I’m on 4G and I’m consisntey between 2-2.5GB and I honestly do not use the phone that much or am i trying to run up my data usage. I really could give a damn about unlimited calling since I use like maybe 100 peak minutes a month, and I know for a fact I’m the norm in thsi day and age. Plus I use google voice for texting so I’m looking at
40$+30$ = 70 right now for my monthly.

This new plan will screw me for
40$+60$ = 100 (and that is if i can even keep my usage below 2gb)

For a total of 720$ per 2yr contract that I’m getting screwed out of…
    Off to sprint I go.

They are trying to reach Famiy users. Not dumbasses like you. Obviously you dont have a family plan do stfu. be grateful.

So this is Verizon’s way of forcing everyone to pay for unlimited minutes when they know people are using less and less.

Will the shared data plan be the only data plan? Will there be other tied plans? Everything I’ve read is saying that new customers and current customers upgrading with subsidized devices will have to select a tied data plan.

Wow, I’m sorry but this is CRAP. My partner and I both own smart phones and pay individually approximately 75 a month. 150 total. With this new shared plan, we both give up our unlimited data and in exchange, get to SHARE 4 gigs total? Oh but we get to use mobile hotspot for free, what fun! BUT WAIT, we still only have 4 gigs of data! Sure, we could add a tablet for 10 bucks, but then that tablet starts eating away at our data as well. Watch a movie on a long car trip? Kiss your data goodbye. I’m sorry but ANYONE who thinks this is a good offer is delusional.

    • Johnny

      06/12/2012 at 8:39 am

Josh, unless you have an iphone, just use wireless tether which is free and you never have to even think about it.

    • theNewDanger

      07/01/2012 at 1:24 pm

There are people who DON’T have unlimited data that this plan will work for, especially for the purposes of using mobile hotspot. Why add a 4G LTE tablet to your plan when you could buy a WiFi-only one by tethering for free?

      • Jon

        07/08/2012 at 1:27 am

you guys are missing the point. even if he doesn’t add the tablet and tethers it.. it’s still eating away at the data.. you’re giving up unlimited data to get 2gb and it then that’s it. it doesn’t throttle.. that’s just it, you can’t access the internet for the rest of the month.

being able to add tablets, and other devices on your data plan sounds awesome.. until you realize that your data is limited.. and all your devices will just be eating away at the data you do have available. so it makes it pointless to really add any other devices.

        • Shaun

          08/03/2012 at 8:54 am

“you’re giving up unlimited data to get 2gb and it then that’s it. it doesn’t throttle.. that’s just it, you can’t access the internet for the rest of the month.”

This is simply wrong. When you get close to your data limit, you will receive a text alert giving you the opportunity to purchase 2 more GB for $10. If you choose not to do this and you go over your data, you will be charged $20 for 1 GB.

What you are speaking of is an option to turn off buying more data.

    • SNT

      11/01/2012 at 1:23 pm

uhm, Watching a movie on a tablet doesnt waste ass much data as you think. If your online suree it does. but not much.. if your movie is downloaded to your tablet its data…

  5. Jamie

    06/12/2012 at 10:52 am

Verizon is going to end up pushing more people to prepaid carriers with this, especially now that the prepaids are getting the iPhone 4S. For individuals the prepaid route is a no-brainer, and Josh’s example of a 5-smartphone family could cost as little as $175 a month for 300 minutes of talk each plus unlimited texting and unlimited (throttled after 2.5GB) of data. Yeah, you need to pay more for the phone up front, but if you keep it for two or three years you’ll make out like a bandit in the long run.

  6. Rich

    06/12/2012 at 2:31 pm

The shared data plan cost is very expensive, boost mobile has a blackberry with unlimited everything for $45/month, and that is what verizon wants to charge for just connecting the line, then you have to buy data on top of that, what a joke……Please someone tell me this is a bad joke…..

    06/13/2012 at 12:22 pm

I know this is crazy . I have been waiting for so long for this new shared data plan. My husband ugraded his phone while they had that double data special going on and i dint cuz i was waiting for this family plan which is not worth it when we have left over minutes every month. I have been with sprint for 9 years and they offer the best plans i had to swich because i moved out of the city and i had bad service.

  8. Doug

    06/13/2012 at 4:28 pm

I don’t see how it is worth it for anybody. Even Josh is just breaking even. In my case (1 smartphone 4 gb + 4 dumb phones) I pay $150 now. Verizon’s calculator says I would pay $260 for the same plan. If I upgrade 1 phone to a smartphone now, I pay an extra $30/month and get an extra 2gb of data. On the new plan upgrading a phone costs $30 and gets me 0gb of data. The new plans are EXPENSIVE!

  9. AboveAverageIntel

    06/13/2012 at 9:50 pm

So I would like to give some figures to everyone, and I wanted to make my own post.

    Current Vs New.

    Current Family Plan

4 People, 3 Smart phones 1 Flip phone

    40 $ for the 4 lines
170$ for the Unlimited Minutes ( just checked, that is what it says for if i changed to unlimited.)
30$ unlimited Texting for all phones
90$ (at least) for data plan. (will assume they have 2GB package for sake of comparasion)
Total = 330$ (we will leave out any other fees as we are just worried about plans)

So I would like to take a moment to talk about the current billing set up. In reality right now, every Smart phone costs 40 Bucks. 10$ for the Phone line and 30 (at least) for data. So the price for a smart phone remains the same in the new set up. The basic phone will be 30 bucks, which is a 20$ increase. As it is now, you have to play for Voice and texting separately. As you see in our current set up, that is a lot of money. Now lets move on to the new set up.

4 People, 3 Smart phones 1 Flip phone.

    120$ for the smart phones
    30 for the flip phone
100$ for 10 GB which includes Mobile hot spot.
    Total 250$

Bit of a difference there, and in a good way if you ask me. They are getting 4GB MORE than they had before, and it will be shared between EVERYONE. So they now have 4 GB to mobile hotspot their laptops/tablets or whatever. With this pricing, why not upgrade that flip phone to a smart phone for 10 bucks a month and still save money.

You people that are using 10 GB or more are using sites that use Verizon’s bandwidth for free. If you truly want to blame this price hikes, blame the services you use. Why do you think Netflix can stream videos to you for 5$ a month? Because they don’t bite the bullet in bandwidth pricing. And so many ppl use these services, that it causes Verizon and companies to buy more equipment. This equipment is not cheap, we are talking about single routers that cost millions. You can only fit so much data down 1 strand of fiber.

I am glad to discuss this if you can bring valid arguments!!

    • D-Mann

      07/07/2012 at 11:35 am

The problem with this Shared plan is that its bad for people with individual plans or for people with smaller families. Right now my bill is about 70 bucks per months but with this new shared data plans the price jumps up to about 100 bucks per month. Thats quite a jump in the price!

    • Sean

      07/08/2012 at 12:41 pm

Each smart phone at $40/month used to include 2 gig in charge. It looks like they are charging $100 for 4 extra gig and the ability to share them. Have had trouble finding the real rates online, but was told 2 extra gig was $10 by on rep and $20 by another. Seems less expensive to buy 4 gig plans and not share. or am I missing something

    • Simon

      07/08/2012 at 4:22 pm

The flaw in your argument is that you assume that people WANT unlimited minutes and text. That is in fact not the case. Voice usage is at its lowest ever, and text is also in decline. Data usage is what’s going up. Verizon is taking away that choice and forcing unlimited voice on everyone. I’m currently on AT&T and the only plan that would break even on Verizon is giving me only 2gb to share across 4 lines ( 2 smartphones, 2 feature phones). Whereas with the AT&T plan I’m on currently, i get unlimited 3g data for the feature phones and 3gb for each of my 4g lte phones(6gb) total. This is also with unlimited family text, which gives me unlimited mobile to any mobile calling. How is what’s Verizon proposing any better than that?

    • Dave

      07/23/2012 at 2:23 pm

For people without unlimited data plans, and a family of phone users, this may be better. But, what about those of us with unlimited data plans and want to add a phone for a new family member? I’m finding the total price is about the same. So, the question is, I already have a Droid4 with unlimited data, shouldn’t I just keep it? I can stream anything all day long without a penalty. If I switch to the shared plan, it may be the same or a hair cheaper if I add another smart phone, but as time goes on, I have to assume I’ll be using more and not less data. I really don’t know for sure, but I can’t see Verizon doing this to benefit their customers. They obviously are trying to get rid of unlimited data plan users, even though they claim the average user only uses 1 to 2G a month. Something is very fishy here.

    • Esther

      03/08/2013 at 9:15 am

Very well put. I just switched to this new Verizon plan and I have to say its the best I’ve ever had.
I was previously with T-Mobile on a family plan for about 250 before taxes and fees. It included 1500 whenever minutes for 79.99, unlimited text for 3 lines at 20.00, data plans for all three smartphones (35, 30, & 24.99) then anything else like insurance (which was more expensive with T-Mobile anyways) and caller id was extra.

I am basically saving about 30-40 bucks a month switching to Verizon. I have three smartphones ($120) then the 6gb of data ($80) and then we have insurance on each phone which is roughly 15 bucks a month. Total of 215.00 a month before taxes and fees.
My family is mostly home all the time besides work and school, and we have Wi-Fi throughout the house. Plus we have 4G LTE & its super fast in Miami.
On top of all those savings, I got a great deal on three Samsung Galaxy S3 phones in white for 69.99 each on AmazonWireless!
I think this is a bandit deal, and our bill cycle will be closed in about 1 1/2 weeks, so far we’ve only used 2gb of data always connecting to our Wi-Fi network at home!!
And the cherry on top is that we get SO much better reception in our rooms! T-Mobile we experienced a lot of call drops.. UGH!

Anyone who disagrees that this is great plan for families, are kind of dumb. If you have Wi-Fi at home why not try to connect your phones to it to save on data?
I mean this plan will not work for everyone but a lot of people like my family for instance will love it!!

    06/18/2012 at 4:28 am

So Verizon is basically cutting a Family Plan’s allotment of data down from 4Gb to 1Gb while keeping the same price and the trying to justify the move by explaining “yeah, but your whole family gets to share that 1Gb!” And AT&T is set to follow?

LOL, good luck with that one! This might be a good time to invest in Sprint or T-Mobile.

    06/23/2012 at 4:56 pm

Im not complaining about the plans it would cost 160 for 2 phones on 6gb plan I pay 200 for unlimited talk text and 2 gb each line with att but it does suck that 1 gb starts at 50 they should rethink that for individuals

  12. Sam Daughtry

    07/07/2012 at 11:01 am

This plan has good, bad and ugly points. The good point is the capability of smartphones becoming hotspots. Next comes unlimited talk and text – something that should have been around for years.

The bad is that consumers will need to monitor closely their data usage. We have all heard in the news of those overseas roaming charges and shocking $6000 cell phone bill. I am sure that same thing will happen here back in the US because of phone hacking and unsecure networks – not to mention that Verizon or other carriers will do much because in prevention due to the fact there are so many varied smartphones on the market.

The ugly is that Verizon leaves out a huge market of those on fixed or limited incomes. Instead, mobile billing shoots up double for most consumers. Verizon also forces many of its older customers to act like teens and purchase technology they are not yet comfortable with. Perhaps this is where we will see those so-called $6000 phone bills preying on the elderly not familiar with technology.

Verizon and other mobile companies are averaging a U.S. market of $100 or more per cell phone service contract. In Europe, Asia and most of the globe a comparable contract is nearly half the cost – with more features, better technology and no contract. Additionally U.S. mobile technology forces consumers to upgrade every contract expiration. In essence, phone companies are creating a culture of waste management in addition to presenting an illusion that there is a supply and demand. Mobile companies create the demand by discontinuing phone models usually 7 months after they were available – and the cost of contracts increases annually. There is no demand – just transfer based on forced upgrades by phone providers.

We have created the beast in mobile providers. It wont stop until consumers act and do something about it.

Ok so when my towns alltel switched to Verizon, I wasn’t thrilled but had no choice but to go down with the ship. Fortunately though I was able to keep my alltel plan. Which consisted of “My ten circle, unlimited mobile to mobile Verizon and alltel phones, unlimited text, unlimited data, all for $89.99.” now I feel I’m just getting screwed. So instead of them just renewing that plan, I have to choose sum bs plan thats just going to rip me off in the long run for two years? Verizon is f-ing ppl in the a. Who has the best deal out there? Because I refuse to shove my own face in shit.

If you like to use your phone to tether forget it! I had unlimited then decided to upgrade to the Samsung s3 so I could have 4G. Big deal because since they took away my unlimited I can’t use it to tether. I’m still using my wife’s phone which has the unlimited data.

The first two days I used it to tether I got a text saying I had used 75% of my monthly data allowance!!! Of course part of the reason for that was that they went back to the beginning of my billing cycle to calculate my data usage…. scum bags!

Secondly the sales clerk lied about how much data we had been using so when she suggested a plan which was in line with what she said was our normal usage, according to her it seemed like a good idea. But of course if we use how phones the way we’ve been using them we will end up going over our data and they will make a boat load of money on me. I’m already paying over $300 a month… most of the time can’t get good service living where I live and usually don’t even get 4G when I’m in town.

    Service is ridiculously over priced

So verizon is essentially slicing a own family plan’s allotment of data down from 4gb to 1gb at the same time as keeping the equal rate and the looking to justify the move through explaining “yeah, but your complete own family receives to share that 1gb!” and at&t is about to observe? Lol, good good fortune with that one! This is probably a very good time to invest in sprint or t-cell.
