VIA’s Surfboard Netbook Reference Design
I think the name makes a lot of sense. VIA Technologies is touting a new reference design for Netbook motherboards calling it the Surfboard C855 Reference Design. The Surfboard is geared to handle 1080p video playback and 8 channel audio while using a low power VIA C7-M processor.
The Surfboard C855 can run 1.6GHz VIA C7-M ULV CPU (800MHz bus) and also the VX855 HD chipset. Video playback is 1366 x 768 on an internal screen and 1920 x 1440 on an external monitor.
Check out a video of the reference design in action after the jump.

Call me proud but I think less than 30% CPU utilization for the VIA C7-M processor while playing 1080p HD video is pretty impressive, add in 8 channel HD audio and netbooks will do a lot more than just surf!
