Losing your sweetheart would be most disastrous!

There are, however, disaster recover methods to protect against hard drive data loss. There’s tape-based backup, there’s B2D (backup to disk), there’s RAID, there’s cloud optimized storage.

But how do you “recover” if you lose your sweetheart?

How’s this for a worst Valentine’s Day Story? Our tragic pair are separated due to a snow storm on Valentine’s Day. And when they finally get together to celebrate the day the relationship ends in such a way not even the best backup system in the world can restore it. Sad but true.

The red hard drive gives me flashbacks. Some years ago I gave my wife for Valentine’s Day a red DustBuster vacuum cleaner. I thought it was romantic. She didn’t. She still remembers. Maybe a pink hard drive would go over better?

Truthfully, my best Valentine’s day was quite a few years back, the last Valentine’s Day before John’s death. We celebrated at home. We were broke as all get out, but John made sure to make the day special for me, just by his actions. We made a nice dinner and ate by candlelight, it was a great evening.

My Best Valentine’s Day memory is from 1992. I took my then girlfriend out for a nice dinner. Afterwards we returned to my parents house and I presented her with a heart shape box of chocolates. When she opened the box inside was an engagement ring. I then got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. We have now been married for 15 years.

I would have to say my best valentines day was last year when I took my hunnie out to a nice (and expensive) dinner, gave her a “build a bear” Panda (was a representation of me), walked around in some fancy gardens and just spent the whole day with her from sun up to sun down. No day can be bad as long as it was spent with my girlfriend and Valentines was no exception.

When I look back, the best valentine’s day was in 7th grade, when I had my first crush, crushing right back at me. We found out when we swapped valentine cards [/cheese] :)

    Truth is stranger than fiction.

My worst turned into my best, when I was set up on a blind date, things went okay, she seemed a bit sketchy but I took the bite. We went out a few more times and things seemed to get better. Finally the person that set us up decided that we should do a double date and it just happen to be Valentine’s Day. Everything was a go until she decided not to show up. Needless to say becoming the third wheel is not how I wanted to spend the evening. I left understandably upset and went to grab a calorie-laden slush from Sonic. Right next to me was a woman that just happened to be the same thing – drowning her sorrows in a cherry limeade. Go figure. We ended up taking our drinks to a little restuarant, chatted, and had a wonderful evening. No pressure, no expectations, just a great time.

    Those were the days.

I would have to say my best valentine was around 12 years ago when the guy I was dating took me out to a nice restaurant to eat then he gave me a sweethearts necklace. I kinda wish my husband would do some of that or even a little because I do nothing now. I don’t even get a kiss.

    Worst Valentines Day.

I had a girlfriend I was madly in love with. We had been seeing each other for a little over a year. I had made arrangements for dinner and a show for valentines day. It was to be a surprise.

She had forgotten it was valentines day. I didn’t hear from her all that day. An old boy friend had come into town they went out for drinks after work to catch up. She called me around 10:30pm to say goodnight make plans for the upcoming weekend.

    Argh!!!

Worst VDay: Went to an amazing restaurant/raw bar, then both my date and I got to spend the remainder of the evening with food poisoning. Could it be more romantic?

My worst Valentine’s Day was when my husband couldn’t get leave, and we were apart.

When I found a note from the Little Red-Haired Girl saying that she like me. Oh wait, that was the Charlie Brown TV show.

I don’t think I ever had a best or worst Valentine. As far back as I can remember they were all the same… of course that can always change.

I have been with my husband for nineteen years. In early ’93 we moved from Bend OR to Prineville Or which is 35 miles away from Bend. My sister had recently moved away with a new beau and I was blue about this and lonely. Tom was working days at a local drug and alcohol counsling agency and I was working swing at a detox in a town eighteen miles away. It snows and ices in Central Oregon and sometimes I did not get home until midnight or later. I thought Tom had forgotten Valentimes day and I was very sad. I arrived home at well after midnight. The house was completely asleep except for our two dogs Gorski and his mom Tasha. They greeted me slurpely and well. I flopped down on the couch exhausted+, and turned on the TV low. I went and got a soda. I sat it on the coffee table and thats when I noticed it. A small jewelry box, wooden, made to look antique with muted yellow, brown and gold rosed. I was filled with that “oh he didnT forget feeling”. I opened the top expecting jewelry. The top was empty except for this poem taped to the inside of the lid.
How do I love thee? Let me count the ways, a month of days only adds to the love I feel for you. Each day it grows stronger, each month it grows broader, each year it grows brighter. Choose a way, each from now to eternity, let it be your promise from me to you each morning and my promise fullfilled each evening. Always, your adoring husband, Thomas Micheal.
In the little drawer underneath was 31 little slips of paper, each bordered in red, and each says something like this; My Sally Jane You are luscious! Your Thomas. 31 of them! You are Zesty, You are my love, wonderful, gorgeous, magnificent, etc. He did it all. It must have taken hours. Some of them are funny because he had to think up 31 of them. LIke You are my cohort, you are zesty. I still have that box. I am still his love, and he is mine. We have been through some hard, hard times in the last few years, as have many. Whenever I have any doubt, I get this box out and look at it and I am without a doubt His angel. I don’t think any thing could top the time and love that went into this valentine.

My best valentines day would have to be last year when my boyfriend surprised me with a cute build a bear that looked like him =) (in panda form might I add) and when you squeezed its left hand it said “I love you Naomi” in my boyfriends voice, I still listen to it almost every night =).

My worst Valentines Day was a few years ago. There were flash floods everywhere and all of the streets were flooded so we weren’t able to go anywhere. That meant no yummy food or delicious movie theater popcorn. Even worse yet, we had no food, so it was slim pickings for dinner.

My best valentines day was probably the first one I really celebrated with my first “serious” girlfriend. You know I was young and full of passion. So I bought red and pink roses petals that I spread on the floor from the main entrance of my girlfriend’s house to his bedroom where was awaiting her 1 rose for our first valentines day together. I had prepared CDs for the occasion, added a few candles here and there…. you know the kind of perfect romantic place. She was cooking however cause at that time I wasn’t very good at it. So we had a really great super and at about half way through my plate, I discovered that she actually made the plate herself (painting both of use in a heart on the glaze in you know that kind of shops). We gave each other a few other gifts during the evening and night… Sadly, we don’t have time anymore to do this kind of romantic night.

The one valentines day that I actually liked was a few years ago. We decided not to battle the crowds and stay in for dinner and a movie. We also decided we couldn’t spend any money on gifts. We both made gifts for each other and had a great time. Unlike other V-day gifts, I still have the ones she made for me. Our plans this year are to do that again.

My worst Valentines day was in 1985 when I went to my young girlfriends house to have dinner with her parents. After a lovely meal we adjourned to the living room for pie and ice cream. Her Father proceeded to pull out a cigarette so being the gentlemen I was I pulled out my zippo to give him a light. As I tried to light the zippo with one of my signature moves it flung out of my hand and landed in his nice glass of brandy which toppled over and spayed on the berber carpet. The chain of events was quite cool, but all in all the carpet was trashed, the fire department paid a visit and I was no longer allowed to date that particular girl ever again! (or so they thought!!!)

My Valentine’s Days usually end up bad. A bad attempt at a heart-shaped baking concoction, the smoke alarm sounding, and the scent of black, burnt toast.

So, my best involves other people and was back in high school about 30 years ago. The activities committee sponsored a Valentine’s Day in which students could sign up to have a rose delivered to a sweetheart for $2. This was a new idea way back then, and kids didn’t expect a delivery in high school. On that Valentine’s Day, I delivered roses to other people’s Valentines at school…and it was the most cheerful feeling. It was just the experience that was so cool — seeing the looks, one-after-another, of genuine, happy puppy love (and only slight embarassment). And not one person was mortified.

My BEST Valentines day story…I met my future Wife at the 1980 Olympics Feb 14 1980….Valentines Day that would be the simple version of the story but one year later Feb 14, 1981 we were formally got engaged, ring and all now that sounds like two best Valentine days in my Life but it was all one because 28 years later this Saturday Feb 14, 2009 we celebrate 29 Valentines Days and counting….

I had this boyfriend about 9-10 years ago. We weren’t getting along so well – I had just caught him lying to me like 2 days prior to Valentine’s. So on Valentine’s he gets up and goes out with his friend to Walmart and comes back with this ring in this rose ring box. He gives it to me and I’m like okay…. so I open the rose and see this cheesy ring in there and I’m like, “what is this ring for? what does it mean?” He proceeds to tell me it’s a promise ring, like we just stay together. I told him I’d have to think about it, because of the issues we were having. So I get up and go use the restroom and I come back into the living room when I was done, and he’s on the phone, and he says “Your friend Debbie called. I just told her we just got engaged.” I’m like “I didn’t hear the phone ring?!” so I pick up the phone, take it into the bedroom, and she proceeds to tell me how he just called her and starting asking her all of these questions, like “do you think she’ll marry me?”, etc. I couldn’t believe it!!! I had him move out within a week. and I gave him the cheap ring back. sorry…
But guys make more effort than running out to Walmart to buy an engagement ring!

The best V-day was the first one where my honey and I were living together. She surprised me by making my favorite dinner, and a very special dessert…all from scratch. Then we had a very romantic evening spent cuddling, and other things that will not be described in detail…but use your imagination. :)

My worst Valentines story is always the same… I never have anyone to spend it with! Sad, I know, I’m sure there are many of us single guys out there! Good luck to all, hoping to win this or I’ll have to buy a big drive of my own. I really need a place to bring my media libraries together. Planning on hosting everything on Orb so I’ll be able to access it from anywhere.

I believe that no matter how bad things may appear to be, you have a choice to look for and hopefully find the good in the situation. If you sit around and cry for what could have been you lose. So I choose to keep positive. (Most likely the jerk that just dumped you really wasn’t for you, and the right person may be just around the corner). To let you know what my favorite Valentines day is and was, My kids made me home made cards when they were little and put chocolate harts in them. I still have the cards…but I think I need more chocolate. Wishing everyone well and a happy Valentines day.

This is going to be the worst Valentine’s Day ever!! Not only do I Have to work all night but I specifically bought a special present for my girlfriend and I can’t give it to her. I’ve tried to get this work shift covered for a few weeks now and although I know there are people who can take it, nobody responds to my requests. I think the only thing that can make this Valentine’s Day tolerable is to win these new external hard drives. Oh yeah, did I mention that my current external hard drive of 3+ years just broke with all of time machine backups, music, documents and more. I’ll probably have to pay an arm and leg to rescue the data that I lost. Worst month ever!

My worst Valentines story was last year when “the guy” broke my heart on Valentines Day. I was never big on the day, but I’m still a girl. Suffice it to say, I like people who are honest, and he was very honest then.

I MUST enter this giveaway. My friend has the Seagate Freeagent Drive. Her name isn’t Jones, so I don’t feel I must keep up with the Joneses. I’m simply Jonesin’ for the Seagate beauty.

My mom died the day after Valentine’s Day, so there’s no competition for my worst holiday. Don’t mean to be a downer–I promise I’ll post cheerier thoughts next time. Promise!
