The Notebooks.com and GottaBeMobile team are using SCOTTEVEST clothing to carry all of our gear in Las Vegas during the Consumer Electronics Show. We’ve teamed up with SCOTTEVEST to give away Scott’s latest creation- the SeV Soft Shell Jacket. This SeV is great for colder climates, but is thin enough to allow you to move around. Our own Warner Crocker just received one from his wife for Christmas.

The SeV Soft Shell Jacket has three layers of breathable fabric that can stand up to water and wind. It has 19 pockets for all of your gadgets, including one that lets you see and touch your touch-enabled devices.

This giveaway is open to anyone in the world as long as it’s legal for you to participate in your locale. To enter, simply answer the following questions in the comments below.

What would you put in your SeV Soft Shell Jacket and how/where specifically would you use it? The more detailed your response the better! We’ll pick a winner from the combined entries on Notebooks.com and GottaBeMobile.com
We’ll notify the winner by email on Tuesday.

I would wear it walking my dog. I live on the west coast of Canada, and we often get rainy and/or windy days and it would be perfect for walking by the ocean.

I would wear it on business trip to Dubai and Prague at the end of the month. I would carry my Windows Mobile Phone, Zune and netbook as well as my wallet, passport, tickets, etc. I would also wear when I return to Seattle, as it would lighten by bag in which I carry my tablet in. : )

I would give it a good home as I travel all around the world in the coming year, from New Zealand to Alaska, LA to Singapore, and all points in between. It would give home to my two cameras, my US phone, my world phone, my kindle (I hope), my sunglasses, my passport, and more… and it would lighten my computer bag which is already heavy with an Alienware m17x.

I would use it for everyday usage, in the Swedish harsh weather. It would help to take some load of my backpack and would provide itself very useful in terms of accessing gadgets quicker, such as my UMPC, phone, iPod and camera, among other things.

I would use it while traveling next winter to Paris to carry my phone, camera, netbook and assorted IDs. Probably around the bay area on a day to day basis to carry the usual phone, wallet, keys and possibly my netbook (though I’m not entirely sure it wouldn’t be a little awkward carrying it around on a daily basis). Definitely convenient to handle those chilly San Francisco winds.

This looks like just what I need when walking my dog. She likes to take long walks and I’ve been looking for a small bag or pack to carry water, bags, a camera etc. It’s been hard to find something that doesn’t get in the way on the walk. From what I’ve read so far, this jacket would work well.

Well, I’m always on the go and need to carry my phone, wallet, keys, and sunglasses with me wherever I am headed. After I discovered SeV, I started carrying things around that I’ve needed here and there. A mini tape measure is a good idea, especially since I’ve just moved and am still shopping for furniture, a TV, and an entertainment center for the living room. I also like to keep a tide pen on me because I always seem to spill coffee on myself at work when I’ve got a busy day. Business cards are also a must because you never know when you’ll meet someone you want to connect with. A camera is always good to have but I’ll be carrying my flip video camera as well now that I’ve started a daily video blog of 2010 and I’m never sure when I’ll be inspired to make a post.

That leaves me with ten more pockets (assuming I haven’t double-dipped). Suppose I’ll carry a moleskine writing pad with all of my notes and engineering drawings, a pocketknife, mini flashlight, deck of cards, some snacks, and maybe a magazine or two. If I had a netbook, that would be a must, but seeing as “there’s a pocket for that,” I’d like to get one. I’ll leave a couple pockets empty since I’m headed to the grocery store to pick up a few small things.

I would use it walking/riding back and forth to work and other urban adventures. I’d carry my Android phone (which serves double duty as my music player/netbook now), Leatherman, keys/wallet, minty boost and sunglasses always. Occasionally, I’ll throw in my point and shoot or PSP. I’d leave the other pockets open for snacks and things I find along my way.

Hi, Well I know that it would make a hug change to the way I teach. At the moment I have a bunch of gear that sits on my desk in the classroom and when I walk around the class teaching, I constantly have to go back to get another device for a part of the lesson. I use a “Presenter” when I am doing PowerPoints, which could fit in any pocket. I also use a small tablet like device when I don’t want to haul around my HP Elite 2730p. However if the 2730p could fit in a pocket, boy that would change the way I operate. I also have a Nokia N97 and a Treo 650 that I use for different comms around the class with a variety of Bluetooth and WiFi connections to make the tech happen in the class.
I just recently went on a trip into out lovely mountains, and on that trip I had a utility belt that had on it: a GPS; a Compass; My Nokia N97; a whistle; a hunting Knife; a cigarette Lighter; a pair of binoculars; some munchies; a couple of maps; my camera and spare batteries/cards; and my water bottle. The jacket would have been a great asset there as well.
I remember recently traveling to the UK and I had two backpacks filled with various 2.5″ hard drives and multiple USB sticks. Now that was a mission at each x-ray point to empty the bags and my pockets of everything. A Scottevest would make life so much simpler in the classroom, on the go and in transit.

This jacket would be perfect for my work travel, particularly with all of these new travel restrictions in place. I work for a university in technology and am not rolling in cash, but do a fair number of technology presentations all over the world dealing with PDA Phones and tablets, as well as other emerging technologies.

I could get where I need to be with all of my tools in place without having to worry about some airline losing all of my gear. Works for me!

I work in NY but live in Philly, so it would be a great commuter jacket!
It would be perfect to hold on to things i keep losing during the commute, and trust me, 19 pockets may not be enough!!!
    Thanks.

What would you put in your SeV Soft Shell Jacket and how/where specifically would you use it?

I often talk on my phone with a wired headset (I hate bluetooths) and all the jackets I have dont have a pocket. So imagine I am doing groceries and talking to folks. Due to lack of pockets I often find myself holding the cart in one hand and the phone in another. This jacket would really be awesomeness in the context I am talking about here :). To answer your question I will keep my phone and my music player in it.

To answer your second question, I will wear it almost everywhere I take my phone or music player :D. Smart huh !!!

I take several technology classes and find myself at school 4-5 days a week. I tend to carry everything I might need while away on campus. I would carry my Kindle, water bottle (stainless steel), sunglasses, extra change, keys, school ID and library card, 4 thumb drives,USB extension, SD card, iPhone with ear buds, Olympus digital recorder, extra Cross TPC pen, wallet, TPC power supply and then hand carry my HP2730p. Then I could leave the backpack at home. I carry all my books in my TPC as I cut and scan them all if a digital copy is not included.

It would be great to win a scottevest. The immediate thought that comes to mind as to use this would be as my “backpack” to school. I’ll be able to put my tablet in there along with the AC adapter and extra battery. A notebook for those “just in case” times and various writing utensils, calculator, iPhone, both my wired and wireless headphones, iPhone cable, extra iPhone battery, water bottles, and some food if I can find room somewhere in there still.

Definitely would be easier on the train and not have to worry about hitting someone with your backpack as you turn from side to side.

Another scenario that I could get good use out of the jacket would just be on days when I go out and it would eliminate having to bring my messenger bag. I’ll be able to carry my water bottle’s easier and I can throw my P1610 in there. It would be great to eliminate these bags all together with a Scottevest.

What I normally carry is my smart phone, gps, leatherman wave, keys (with qstarz bt-1300), flashlight, 2 wallets, shure earphones+a2dp receiver. Unfortunately, all that gear does get a little lumpy but is it ever handy!

So here’s what attracts me about the SeV: Obviously the additional pockets to carry my gadgets but it’s also got large pockets that conceal what’s being carried and allows wires to be channeled throughout the jacket.

The reason is that I’ve been assembling a wearable computer system for myself. The base computer is a Fujitsu u820 that for display would hook up to modified Myvu Crystal (see: https://bako.ca/wearable/myvu/ for what I did there). That’s all done and for data input, I’m currently at the stage where I’m trying to assemble a chordite keyboard (see https://www.chordite.com for concept).

So where the jacket would be amazing is that I won’t need to carry a specialized bag to house all the devices and figure out how to channel all those wires. Even better is that it wouldn’t be obvious: I’ve done some testing with the little Myvu monocular during lunch and it does pull attention – when I start using my full project and if I end up looking like a Borg drone, I suspect I may have problems in this paranoid world.

Of course, I’ll follow up publically when things are done. (In much the same way as I did for my most recent project: https://bako.ca/streetview-riding/ )

This year I’m doing a project filming Murray Cod in the Snowy Mountains and Cotter rivers and will be packing quite a bit of gear around with me. My new XDCAM camera uses solid state SxS cards so the SeV Jacket would be perfect for carrying extra memory cards, wireless mic setup and lens cleaning cloths, batteries as well as all the bits and pieces you seem to end up with in your bags when you carry camera gear.

I bought an iPhone which means I’ve had to go back to carrying a separate digital stills camera (the N95 was good enough for both phone and camera duties) and so there’s two more pockets gone :), plus memory cards and batteries. I’m also going to try some solar chargers as we’ll be camping for a few days at a time and away from power.

Finally I have a Viliv X70 to download pics while mobile to an external hard drive for backup, so there’s another couple. All in all it’d be great to be able to drop effectively a whole bag because the SeV is probably up to the job, I’ll have to let you know after I’ve tried it, hint hint.

    5)an external backup disk
6)a small power bank which also serve as a all-in-one charger for gadgets

    8)a very small raincoat
    9)a crank-powered flash light
    10)a first aid kit

I would wear the jacket for a large part of the year especially in the cooler Spring and Autumn.

The first item I would put in the jacket is my HTC HD2. The Clear Touch Fabric would enable me to operate it with out getting it out.

I often use noise cancelling headphones and would connect them to the HD2 through the PAN system in the jacket. The BudBuckets would help prevent the headphones knocking against the jacket when moving, a problem which defeats the noise reduction process – the Collar Connect will prevent chaffing from cables too.

I am a heavy data orientated used of the phone so carry a Proporta battery for recharging purposes.

For occasions where a lot of typing is needed I would be able to carry my Stowaway IR keyboard and spare battery (though it runs for months with need for replacement).

The biggest criticism my wife levels at me when we are out is that my pockets bulge with gaqdgets, but the No Bulge pockets would deal with this.

Travel documents and other items I carry and need easy access to such as tickets, passes, glasses (for which the built in Eyeglasses Chamois is a boon) and loyalty cards are taken care of by the TravelSmartSystem.

To ease the battery drain on my HD2 I have a Dell Axim X51 I could carry.

The Pen/Stylus pocket would enable me to carry a larger stylus than the built in Axim one. Also I could carry the forthcoming HD2 Capacitive stylus when it arrives.

I carry a variety of media on memory cards for the HD2 and X51 and these would go in the MyMemory pocket.

I would clip my office keys to the Keyholder.

The Weight Management System will ensure comfort even with all the stuff I carry.

For these gloomy winter evenings travelling home I carry a LED torch and that too could go in an easy access pocket.

The locations I would use the jacket are around the UK, particularly Cornwall where I live and also on a trip to the US next October.

I am an avid fly fisherman and a warm jacket like this would be perfect to wear on cool Spring and Autumn days. The multitude of pockets would be great for holding gear such as extra leaders, line, and small boxes of artificial flies. Other pockets could hold a water bottle, snacks, and maybe even lunch.

No matter how careful I am accidents can happen so having space to carry a small first aid kit with me in a jacket pocket would be great.

You never know when a deer or other animal will cross your path while out fishing so having an extra pocket to carry a digital camera would be a welcome addition.

I would use my Scootevest for travel. I travel quite a bit for work. I run a small business and am constantly traveling short trips one two or three days. A Scottevest would come in very handy to pack my iPhone, sunglasses, tickets, gps, headphones, sunglasses, wallet, and travel itinerary. All I would need is a small overnight bag stuff my laptop in there, and I’d be set to fly. I would lose the laptop bag and make things that much easier. When I travel, I like to take just the essentials, and travel light a Scottevest would be the perfect companion.

I’m in Wisconsin which means I need a jacket for about 2/3 of the year. This thing would be perfect as it looks like it matches up nicely with my REI One that I bought in ’02 and still wear perpetually, only that thing only has three pockets.

As for my storage needs, in the way of gadgets I am always carrying my Motorola Droid, my Canon Powershot SD800is and a Sony voice recorder. That is just the tip of the iceberg for me though as I have a wife and an 18 month old with me as well. This usually means that I am also carrying the keys, my wife’s cell phone, often my wife’s wallet, a nook or two(not the e-reader), a plastic spoon and fork, a bib, a packet of raisins, a packet of gummy products, an extra diaper and wipes.

I also travel for work a few times a year and am loath to ever check a bag, this would clearly just about negate the possibility that I would ever have to check a bag again.

I would love to win this then I aspire to save and purchase a myriad of devices to fill the pockets. It looks well suited to an Auckland, New Zealand winter and would come in very handy when out and about in the wind and rain.

I would carry in this jacket my iPod, cell phone, Flip Mino, and digital SLR, which will take more than one pocket (body in one, lens in another), usb cables for all gadgets, flash drive(s), sundries (lip balm, mirror, Tylenol), ID, credit card, debit card, and a little bit of cash. I would wear the jacket everywhere and stop lugging around a heavy purse.

  29. Rich

I would wear the jacket daily (weather permitting) to help carry my my gadget load. Including my HTC Fuse, iPod, Eee 701 (my Redfly when I get one), Swiss Tool, flashlight, wallet, camera and other things. This would make my pants pockets happy.

I’m a college student in Wisconsin and I could really use this jacket. I typically have to walk 3 or 4 blocks to school from wherever I find a free parking spot and in Wisconsin winter that is at very cold, sub zero temperatures.

I like to have my Ipod, cell phone, headphones, pen/pencil, keys, wallet, gum, chapstick, flash drive, power supply for my Mac, sunglasses, microtool (screwdriver, bottle opener, ect.), spare change, and my gloves. Most of which if you just put in a backpack with your books and laptop get smashed, smooshed, dented, dinged, or just broken. This would be a great improvement to simply hoping that nothing gets ruined.

    Thanks for the chance,

    Scott
