Perhaps you remember my previous review of Eltima SyncMate, the software solution for syncing your Mac and Windows Mobile device.   Our friends from Eltima Software are preparing to release a new version, but before they do, they’d like to offer GottaBeMobile readers an opportunity to win a few licenses for version 1.4!   Click the read more link for your opportunity to win!

Eltima SyncMate 1.4 is a handy synchronization tool for your Mac and Windows Mobile device that is offered in two editions.   SyncMate 1.4 Free Edition allows syncing of contacts and iCal data, the ability to view SMS and analyze device information on Mac.   For users who need additional synchronization features, Eltima Software offers SyncMate 1.4 Expert Edition.   With Expert Edition users can easily synchronize iTunes and iPhoto, share Internet between a Mac and Windows Mobile device, sync time, separate folders, mail, Notes, ToDo’s and install any .CAB files on your device from Mac! The expert edition also allows greater control when it comes to managing SMS from your Mac.   Syncing can take place via Wi-Fi or USB.

A detailed comparison chart of SyncMate 1.4 Free and Expert Editions can be found here.   More information about Eltima-SyncMate can be found at sync-mac.com.

Well, I could lie…but the truth is, i dont’ have a mac (yet); but i do have a windows mobile device. AND, i am planning on getting a mac in the near future..& you’d have to pry my dell axim out of my hands before i switch devices (i love it that much). So, i likely will put this software to use..& bringing new users to this software shouldn’t be a bad thing right?

I guess i could comment a few shortcomings of activesync & windows mobile device center…i don’t know if these are shared with eltima. I can say looking at the screenshots, that it blows AS or WMDC out of the water.

Couple things about AS & WMDC-

-i don’t like how i’m limited to 2 computers to sync with.
-I don’t like how if i sync my vista machine through bluetooth, it doesn’t connect automatically with my WM device when i turn BT on.
-i wish i can control my mobile device using my computer while synced. maybe even see the device screen on my computer screen
-even though i can sync 2 machines, i still get duplicates
-i wish there was a better built in back up & backup history available

well, those are just a couple things. like i said, i can only comment on windows experience..perhaps this can or cannot relate to eltima..i don’t know.

    good luck to everyone

I’d like it to simply mimic the activesync connection, so I can use things like pdanet on my mac, and other sync tools. This is I think the way some of the other sync tools work.

I would also like the ability to sync selected calendars, and not the ical database.

If you’re a Mac user why not just get the iPhone? I mean, they’re vastly superior to WinMo, right? *eyeroll*

@GoodThings2Life: Some folks may not have that option (such as those on Verizon). This software is a great option for those that may be stuck with a WinMo device or actually prefer the Windows Mobile OS for their phones.

The screenshots all show a dropdown menu at the top of the screen with the connection type. Does this mean that you can sync your phone via bluetooth or even wi-fi? That would be simply awesome and is one of the things that really piss me off about my iPhone. Often it’s just a few podcasts, contacts or notes that need to be synced yet you still need to find your cable and sync manually.

Looks like a great update for using my WinMo TouchPRO with the Mac. I have to say that I have not had a need to sync them before, but this would be a great opportunity. I typically did the Windows boot and sync over Bluetooth.

This would be great to try to see what additions could be requested. I see that there is SMS reading/archiving, that is great. With WinMo you have to purchase something extra to get that. I like having the calls added to a journal/logged, I would like to see some screen shots of what all it records and in what format. Maybe add send SMS from Mac via connected WinMo device.

I’m shooting from the hip now. :)

Hi Everyone! Hi, my name is Alex Taylor and I’m from Eltima Software (developers of SyncMate). I have some comments for you:)

    @ Niels –
With SyncMate you can sync your Windows Mobile device with your Mac via USB or WiFi.

    @ R –
Actually, you can send SMS directly from your Mac with SyncMate Expert. You’ll have an opportunity to test this feature if win SyncMate Expert here:)

    Good luck to everyone!

    I don’t have 3 thing … but I do have 2.

    – Better call-out of connection status. One look at ActiveSync on windows, even in the status bar, and you know if you are hooked up. With Syncmate the black / gray contrast is insufficient to provide that easy feedback.

    – Simpler iTunes sync editing – having to add a single playlist at a time is cumbersome, and it constantly feels bogged down while doing that.

Aside from that, this is really cool software!

    I’d really like to see:

    1. ability to sync more than one google calendar, either using CALdav or ical.

    2. Ability to actually tether, so use the PHONE connection, and not simply sharing the laptop connection.

    3. Ability to integrate with a cloud based solution like sugarsync, so that I could sync a folder to the iphone directly, or could have the computer sync up to the cloud directly. This would require the syncmate solution on the device to be able to sync up to the could as well.
