Windows Phone 7 launches October 11th in New York

There have been plenty of rumors and plenty of speculation on when and where Windows Phone 7 will launch. To be honest, we know it’s coming and the guess work has pretty much be removed with all these leaks. The hype of Windows Phone 7 has turned these dates and location leaks into pretty hot topics. Up until this point, they have all been loosely based on he said/she said accounts. Today, Engadget has something pretty solid and it includes something quite surprising considering some earlier misinformation.

OK. We already knew there was an event in New York on the 11th. No surprise there, other than this link confirms the event. What is a surprise is that T-Mobile seems to be the star of the show instead of AT&T as we expected. I think the time line is still in line with the rumors, just the players are changing. I still expect to see the retail availability of Windows Phone 7 devices to happen in November as previously reported, but the announcement of the device lineups and partners (OEMs and Carriers) to happen on October 11th, 2010 with a few different events, including a big one in London.

UPDATE: I am not sure if it will be 2 different events in NYC, but Engadget has a different invite now. This info has Steve Ballmer and Ralph de le Vega of AT&T presenting. So, let’s just say that both T-Mo and AT&T are showing handsets on October 11th, 2010 in NYC.

Shows you how “top tier’ Windows Phone 7 is when it debuts on the NUMBER FOUR carrier. If the board was upset with Ballmer last week, wait until they explain to all their industry cronnies WHY they weren’t on Verizon or AT&T at the release party. Look at the spreads Verizon put on for Droid and AT&T for iPhone. Maybe Katherine Zeta Jones can spice it up for them…

VZW and Sprint will be carrying W7 phones, they just aren’t carrying them this year. Sprint has already devoted all their holiday advertising to their new 4G phones and the upcoming Blackberry Style, VZW doesn’t want to dilute their Droid-Frenzy until after Christmas.

What this speaks more to is T-Mo’s lack of faith in the G2.

Microsoft knows windows phone 7 will be a failure thats why they started with the lawsuits.

If you can’t beat ’em, sue ’em! I had forgotten about that. A deadly one-two punch: courts + TMobile = lame.

I added an update to the post. This morning, invites started rolling out for the NYC event. Apparently AT&T will be there as initially expected. I am unsure at this time if it’s different events in the same city on the same day or if it’s the same event. Either way, it looks like AT&T and T-Mo will be showing phones on Oct 11th.

Glad to see Microsoft is so on top of this…isn’t this part of why Ballmer’s bonus shrunk because of ineptitude in the mobile space? Good that it got “corrected” but even that was lame – they struggled through the day with a series of edits that went live, first just deleting the reference to T-Mobile and just say their “vendors” will be demoing, before the “Big Chief” announcment of Ballmer and de la Vega (America’s favorite CEO). Again, is their anybody running the ship of state at Microsoft (I see a Hitler rant parody viral video in the works).
