Windows Phone 8 Coming to All Windows Phone Handsets

A Microsoft spokesperson has confirmed that the upcoming Windows Phone 8 update, also known as Windows Phone Apollo, will be coming to ‘all’ Windows Phone handsets.

This is big news for those that adopted some of Microsoft’s earlier Windows Phone handsets like the Samsung Focus Flash, HTC Titan and the LG Quantum.

The news, courtesy of WMPowerUser, was confirmed at a conference in Portugal and the important part of the interview can be seen in the video below.

The conversation in the video, which is in Portuguese, plays out like this:

Q: In terms of devices, who today have one is it expectable that…

A: What Microsoft said/stated and what I’m allowed to tell you is that all actual devices will get upgrade to the next major version of Windows Phone (we´re talking about Apollo)

Q: When you say actual devices. Are all that came out to market?

A: Are all that came out. Since the first generation that were bought. The LGs and SAMSUNGs.. OMNIA 7 which were the first devices with Windows Phone reaching the market.

Microsoft has yet to put this into stone but it’s safe to say that the update will indeed be coming to some of the aging handsets in the company’s lineup.

The company isn’t expected to release the Windows Phone 8 until later on this year and while some details have leaked out, major features of the update are still under wraps.

For its part, Samsung has apparently confirmed that it will be releasing Windows Phone 8 handsets in October so it’s certainly possible that Microsoft will unleash the update during that month.

Now let’s see if they allow the carriers to block or needlessly prolong the availability of the WP8 upon release.
