Today we’re learning more about a rumored follow-up to HTC’s Windows Phone 8X, the HTC Tiara and a possible update to the Windows Phone 8 platform.

Unwired View, which originally broke the story, has obtained internal documents for a possible device powered by Windows phone 8 sometime this spring. According to these leaked documents the HTC Tiara, which as you would imagine is only a code-name, will ship with 1.2 GHz dual-core Snapdragon processor, a 4.3 inch WVGA Super LCD2 display, 1GB of ram, a 1.6 front-facing camera, and an 8 MP rear facing camera with 8GB of internal storage. All of these specs make for a decidedly mid-range device compared with the specifications of the newly announced second generation HTC One and Droid DNA. Both of those devices feature 2GB of ram, a more robust 1.7GHz dual-core processor and more internal storage space. This device is said to take make its debut around mid-May.

What’s more interesting than the specifications of the Tiara is that this device will ship with a newly minted version of Windows Phone 8 called “GDR2.” This would be the second update to the Windows Phone 8 platform that launched in November 2012 alongside the Nokia’s Lumia 920, Lumia 820, Lumia 822, Lumia 810 and HTC’s Windows Phone 8X and Windows Phone 8S devices. So far, there’s been no discernable babble about what this update might include, though this timetable does seem to match with rumors we’ve been hearing about a companywide “Blue” update. “Blue” is rumored to encompass many of Microsoft’s consumer products and launch in mid-to late 2013.

AllAboutMicrosoft’s Mary Jo Foley believes this wave of updates will encompass changes to user experiences, developer platforms (which are the tools developers use to make applications) and the services that power Windows Phone and Windows 8 like SkyDrive, Outlook.com and more.
