Windows Phone Tango Update Set for Q2 2012, Apollo for Q4?

We know that the next two updates for Microsoft’s Windows Phone platform are codenamed Tango and Apollo, Apollo being the more substantial one of the two, but up until this week we didn’t have a clear view as to when they might be rolling out for device owners. Luckily, a leaked roadmap courtesy of WMPowerUser has revealed release windows for both of the updates.

If this little shred of evidence is to be believed, it would appear that Microsoft has the Tango update scheduled for Q2 of next year while Apollo will apparently be rolling out in Q4 of 2012.

According to the document, Tango will be focused on bringing “products with the best prices”, meaning we should see some low-end Windows Phones launch in and around that time.

As for Apollo, it will help “increase overall volume”, focus on “business” and help usher in Windows Phone “superphones” when it arrives.

Yes, in case it wasn’t clear before, Tango is going to be a relatively minor update while Apollo will follow in the footsteps of Windows Phone Mango which arrived for devices earlier on this year.

Now, of course, none of this is set in stone. This document is actually from October of 2011 so it’s very possible that things might have changed between then and now.

Also remember that we’ve heard that Tango might be introduced alongside the Nokia Lumia 900 at CES which will be taking place in Las Vegas during the beginning half of January.

Apollo, at least in the official flesh, we probably won’t see for awhile.
