ZTE Prepping Larger 5.7-Inch Phablet

After having pre-announced the ZTE Nubia Z5 with a 5-inch full HD 1080p display and quad-core processing, ZTE is prepping an even larger phablet device with a 5.7-inch display. The device, however, would be positioned as a lower end device when compared to the Nubia Z5 because the 5.7-inch display would only have a 720p HD resolution.

With a 5.7-inch display. ZTE would definitely be pushing the phablet limits. Samsung’s current Galaxy Note II employs a 720p HD Super AMOLED panel that measures 5.5 inches diagonally. HTC’s Droid DNA has a 5-inch 1080p HD display while LG’s rumored Optimus G2 is now said to have a 5.5-inch 1080p HD display. Moreover, Chinese rival Huawei is said to be releasing an Ascend phablet with a 6.1-inch display and that device may make an appearance next week at the Consumer Electronics Show.

P945-ZTE

Unwired View is reporting that the 5.7-inch ZTE device has a model number of P945 and is said to feature a 1.2 GHz quad-core processor, which is clocked slightly more conservatively than the quad-core 1.5 GHz CPU of the Nubia Z5.

The device appears to be attractively made with a profile that clocks in at less than 9 mm thick. The device will have a more conservative 8-megapixel rear-facing camera–rather than the newer 13-megapixel Exmor sensors of some rumored and newer devices, and is expected to land on China Mobile in the first half of the year. It’s unclear if the P945 phablet will be released in the U.S. or internationally outside of China.
