ZTE V66 4G Tablet at FCC, Destined for Verizon With LTE Support

Chinese mobile manufacturer ZTE has been eyeing the U.S. market for growth and the company may be making a big splash soon with Verizon Wireless. The 7-inch ZTE V66 tablet was recently spotted gaining regulatory approval at the FCC with Verizon’s 4G LTE band in tow, and the backside of the tablet bears the 4G LTE logo design that Verizon employs for its devices.

The tablet will be a 7-inch slate with a high resolution 1280 X 800 display, which is typically found on 10-inch screens. The 7-inch tablet’s resolution matches the 7-inch T-Mobile Springboard by Huawei. For comparison, Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 7 and Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus both have slightly lower resolution displays at 1024 X 600 pixels.

The tablet will come with Android 3.2 Honeycomb along with 1 GB of RAM.

Pricing, availability, and full specs are not yet known. Though ZTE had promised a tablet for the U.S. market with high speed mobile broadband connectivity by the end of the year, this tablet may not land in time. Perhaps it will be on Verizon’s CES announcement.

The 7-inch slate will succeed the aging Galaxy Tab 7 on Verizon Wireless, which is a 3G-only tablet. Since the Galaxy Tab 7, Verizon’s released a number of larger tablets, including the iPad, the Xoom, and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 4G LTE.
