10 Things to Know About the iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 Update

Published

on

We’ve been using the iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 update for a few days now and today we want to take a look at the most important things we think users need to know about the iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 update and its release.

The iPhone 5 was one of devices fortunate enough to receive an iOS 9 update from Apple. In fact, the device has already received three iOS 9 updates, four if you include the iOS 9.1 update that Apple and its partners are testing in beta.

The iPhone 5’s first iOS 9 update was iOS 9.0, a system upgrade that emerged on September 16th alongside system upgrades for several other versions of the iPhone. iOS 9.0 had a very short stint as the most current version of iOS 9.

A few days later, Apple pushed an iOS 9.0.1 update to the iPhone 5. The update arrived with several bug fixes on board including one that a squashed a bug impacting timers and alarms. iOS 9.0.1’s reign only lasted for a week.

On Wednesday, Apple pushed an iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 update. The update is a small bug fix update and it comes with improvements to the Podcasts application and more. It’s an important update and it’s becoming more visible as the days go on.

With iOS 9.0.2 problems starting to surface and the next iOS 9 release date unconfirmed, we want to take a look at the most important things iPhone 5 users need to know about this iOS 9.0.2 update and its release. Keep these in mind as we push towards the iOS 9.1 release date later this year.

iOS 9.0.1 on iPhone 5 Impressions

We've been using the iPhone 5 iOS 9.0.2 update for a few days now and while there are some things to like, there's one thing that we aren't liking at all.

Just about everything checks out. Battery life is great. Apps are running fine. And we haven't seen any problems with connectivity. For the most part, iOS 9.0.2 is great on the iPhone 5. There is one problem though: Stuttering and lag.

The software stutters and lags when trying to do basic things like open a folder or scroll to Spotlight Search. It's annoying and it's something we've encountered in every iOS update since the iOS 8.0.2 release. Our hope is that iOS 9.1 corrects it but we're not optimistic at this point. The iPhone 5 is old. For more, look at our impressions.

You should also seek out feedback from other sources. Sites like YouTube, Apple's own discussion forums, and Apple-specific forums like MacRumors should provide more insight into an update that is 90% great, 10% frustrating. At least for us.

That sounds annoying. My Iphone4 crashed because of an old update. When this is not going to work well, I will buy Samsung for sure!

Dont update! I accidently updated my iphone 5 to IOS 9.0.2. Apart from no finger passcode, the phone freezes. I can message without it freezing, the phone overheats. I have to constantly hit the top button and re-enter the password to obtain access to the phone. Battery life is zapped in a nanosecond. I am so sorry I accidently installed this. It has made a good phone completely useless.

Since upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS9.0.2, I keep get this annoying, can-only-say-yes-to window about having “won” something through Facebook.com-us or something like that. And my e-mail notifications are screwed up. They are forcing me to upgrade my phone via a “software update” — a truly ugly corporate strategy.
