The iPhone 6 is Setup Nicely for the Future

When Apple released its iOS 11 update in September it killed software support for the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c. Neither device got iOS 11 and neither device will get iOS 12.

This is big news because it means the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c won't get any new features, security patches, or bug fixes down the road. If you are looking to buy a new iPhone, avoid these devices.

The move wasn't surprising. Apple typically offers four years of software support before pulling the plug. However this year its decided to extend that support with an iOS 12 upgrade for the iPhone 5s.

iOS 12 will likely be the last major update for the iPhone 5s, but it puts the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus in position to get iOS 13.

So, if you're already the proud owner of an iPhone 6, you won't need to ditch the phone for awhile. (Unless, of course, you're dealing with major problems).

And if you're thinking about picking an iPhone 6 up, know that you'll be able to hold onto it for several years before it reaches the end of its life.
