iPhone 4S Gets Benchmarked, Blows Away the Competition

Published

on

Yesterday, we saw some iPhone 4S benchmarks that appeared during a hands-on video with Apple’s latest smartphone. And while they revealed that the iPhone 4S is two times as fast as the iPhone 4, they left us wanting more. Thankfully, some more benchmarks were released today courtesy of AnandTech and they show off how the iPhone 4S stacks up against the rest of the competition.

This time around we have Javascript, CPU and GPU benchmark scores to marvel at and the iPhone 4S pretty much destroys the competition here, even with its processor clocked at 800MHz.

In fact, the only competitor to post better benchmark scores was Apple’s iPad 2. Competitors like the Samsung Galaxy S II, Motorola Droid Bionic, Droid 3, and more were left in the iPhone 4S’ dust.

In addition, the iPhone 4S – running iOS 5 – absolutely blew away the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS when running iOS 5.

So, if you’ve been looking for a powerful smartphone, the iPhone 4S is probably a phone to take a look at. It’ll be interesting to see how Google’s Ice Cream Sandwich and Galaxy Nexus compare to these scores.

Much like Apple fanboys don’t care about Android products even if they’re better, the same can be said about Android fanboys not caring about Apple products no matter what the specs are.  There is nothing that the iPhone could do that would interest me, I don’t care how fast or sexy it is.

Age old story…Porsche vs. Ford – both have four wheels, get you from A to B, incite envy in all Ford owners for Porsches, but won’t admit it.

This just confirms what I always suspected, that benchmarks don’t mean squat! If these results are accurate then why are there so many YouTube videos showing the Galaxy s2 blowing the iPhone 4s away in EVERY head-to-head speed comparison?!

Interesting and impressive results…give credit where one is due. How do those in the know explain such high score..it will be interesting to find out. Can someone please try to decipher those results.

These are just browser benchmarks. Where are the processing and graphics benchmarks? If you’re gonna do this and compare, at least say what it is that you’re benchmarking and not let people assume the iPhone is faster than every other phone at everything.

Yea I was thinking the same thing, these are browser benchmarks..  Im sure the SGS2 would piss on it in a processing one!

The Galaxy Tab 8.9 is Tegra 2 based.  I saw other Tegra 2 based devices on that list.  What gives?  That’s a huge discrepancy.  Is the Honeycomb browser really that much more optimized?  Could you give that browser to other Tegra 2 based devices and get similar scores?  Somebody tell me what the hell is going on and why.  This makes zero sense.  If the Honeycomb OS is making all of the difference then this victory for the iPhone 4S is going to be very short lived.

Who cares how fast the phone is if the screen is too small to use.  That tiny screen gets even tinier when you open the keyboard.  I have the best phone out there, the Droid 3.  All this data makes me do is take a another look at the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9.  It has all this and 4G.

doesn’t the puny screen size on the iphone account for some of the quicker benchmarks? at least in terms of GPU processing it must.

No. The resolution is just as high as other phones.

*higher, and the iphone has much smoother (aka higher framerate transitions) than any androids I’ve seen

This article is pathetic.  The author should chop off his hands (and cut out his tongue – Siri) so that he can never offend intelligent people with his stupidity again.
Really, really incredibly stupid.  You understand nothing about technology and should not be allowed to use any.  Please shut up forever immediately.

I noticed they didn’t bench mark the Evo 3D on the browsermark…if memory serves depending how your bench marks are written they can favor a phone, these don’t give us the whole story in real world usage, I have the original Evo and an iphone 4 for work, hate that iphone to put it bluntly, drops calls (AT&T) ALL the time compared to the Evo. Jobs was not a god, he stole ideas just like everyone else (think Xerox) told other competitors they would be charged a fell for using the word Mac (Mcdonalds had something to say about that) he was more like Walt Disney taking credit for other peoples ideas and like Walt was a tyrant and abusive to employees…I don’t have the 4s but don’t want it either. Jobs didn’t invent the phone, Bell did.
