How to Turn Off iPhone Notifications

Published

on

If you own an iPhone, you’ve probably gotten a few notifications in your time. You know, those messages that pop up alerting you to things like email, Facebook friend requests, text messages, or a Twitter response. Lots of applications use these push notifications and with the release of iOS 5, Apple has included something called Notification Center, a centralized hub for your notifications.

You can access it by swiping down from the top of the screen although you probably knew that already.

Well, for some of you, these notifications might be more annoying then useful and if that’s the case, we’re here to help you get rid of them once and for all, if that’s really what you want to do.

We must warn you, the process is a bit tedious as Apple now requires you to disable push notifications for each individual application. But luckily, you’ll only have to do it once.

1) Open up Settings on your iPhone.

2) Head to Notifications.

3) If  you’re able to scroll down for what seems like an eternity, you’re on the right page. Apple has grouped this page into two categories.

The first is In Notification Center. These are, as you may have surmised, the applications that currently pop up in your Notification Center. There are a bunch of them included in there by default.

If you want to disable them from popping up in the Notification Center, you’ll want to go into each one and flip the Notification Center toggle to Off.

4) The second is Not In Notification Center. This is where the apps that you disable will go. By the end, every single app you have on your iPhone should show up in this section.

5) Now here is the terrible part. You’re going to have to go app by app to ensure that push notifications are turned off. Some, like Facebook, appear within your Settings.

Go in, scroll down to Push Notifications, and flick them all to off.

That’s just one example. Other applications will require you to open them, and then head to the Settings within the app.

If you have a lot of apps, this could take awhile.

6) Four and a half weeks later, after you’ve gone into each individual apps Settings, your iPhone should be void of any notifications popping up and disrupting things.

It might sound kind of scary but after awhile, you’ll enjoy the tranquility.

7) You’re close, but you’re not done yet. You’ll also want to disable Wi-Fi network notifications. You can find out how to do that by heading here.

8) Also, quick side note. Often times, after installing them, apps will prompt you and ask if you want to enable Push Notifications. You’ll want to say no.

This will help keep your notifications silenced going forward.

unfortunately every time you update apps (and most apps update at least once a week) the notification setting is reverted to ON. so you’ll have to do this every week. horrible design imo.

What asdf said and, i have apps that reside in my “Not in notification center” that still give me pops. I have just resigned myself to it.

What i do not understood is in fact how you are not really a lot more
smartly-appreciated than you might be now. You are so intelligent.
You realize therefore significantly relating to this matter, made me individually consider it from a
lot of varied angles. Its like men and women are not interested unless it is something to accomplish
with Lady gaga! Your own stuffs excellent. At all times take care
    of it up!
